I know another S2000 owner who mounted his to the dash, near the A-Pillar. He claimed he got as good of a reception there as possible.

I don't know why people reccomend mounting them low, while the manufactures reccomend to mount them high.

I mount mine as high as possible but to the RIGHT of the mirror. I figure if I am ever in an accident and the RD flies off the windshield I'd rather have it hit my passenger in the face, than me.

I had mine mounted low and in the middle. Needless to say I got pulled over by a Highway Patrol because of where it was mounted. He said it needed to be in the lower corner of the windshield because of obstruction thru the site of the windshield. I'm thinking he said that because you get bad detection. Mine is just below the rv mirror. Reason I'm not mounting it higher is because I'm having a strip of tint along top of the windshield to cut down on the sun rays. This is a must because the sun always hits my kids in the car and it makes a huge difference in AZ.

You mount it high for radar because when you are coming over a hill its going to pick it up quicker, as well as its better for picking up radar from behind you. For laser lower is better because cops aim for something with a reflective surface (IE your license plate) however with laser once it hits your detector you're almost always already screwed anyway so why bother.

Radar waves are not little tiny things that are influenced by 2' of positioning. Just try a test at one of the school or urban trailer mount radars, I have. Radar detector at the visor and then down to the footwell and rotate backwards (non-valentine). No difference whatsoever until I tip it below the dash or rotate it backwards. I would position it above the wipers and everything else is just convenience.

High and to the left of the RV mirror. Going to modify the visor so it will come down and have an opening for the detector...

Mine is a Beltronics 940 and I have it mounted just above the dash, enough to clear the wipers and I have never had a problem with the range of detection. Its located in the same way on my wifes MDX.

passport 8500 low as possible but still w/o obstruction ahead. i also tuck telephone wire near the dash vents so its "out-of-the-way"

if an officer is 500yd away, the different in height of windshield location is an angle that is a fraction of a fraction

put the radar as high as possible.

You will Get the best radar detection this way.

You have to realize that these radar detectors are good for only radar detection. NOT for laser. YES they do detect lasers if your hit with them. BUT by the time you realize you got hit the officer already knows your speed. So your screwed regardless.
