Unhappy Best way to mount an iPhone to an S2000

Hi folks, I have seen this question raised several times in the past but not specifically with my idea in mind. I've done a lot of research on mounts and I bought and installed the Modifry dash mount. Now it's in and I don't know where to go next. What I want to do is:

1. mount an iPhone 3G to this Modifry bracket
...1a. the iPhone is in a case, the CapsuleNeo from switcheasy.
...1b. The mount should be very solid - enough to use the iPhone as a mini in-car touchscreen computer.
...1c. The mount should have a dock connector or a place to hold the Apple 30-pin connector cable at the bottom so the phone just "pops" in the dock.
2. Connect my iPhone 3G to a new headunit, preferably where I can keep the radio cover closed and just use the iphone to control playback.
3. The headunit needs to do the following things:
...3a. FM/AM Radio with RDS
...3b. HD Radio (built-in preferred)
...3c. iPhone power and audio-in (obviously)
...3d. Be easy to use in the S2000
...3e. play CDs, DVDA's would be a plus
...3f. Sat radio I don't really care about but if it has sirius built-in that would be a plus

So, mainly I need a good, adaptable iPhone mount, and a new headunit that plays the iPhone (or accepts its audio) and does HD Radio.

I'm falling on this forum's expertise in the area.
What do you think? Thanks in advance!

Most aftermarket head units will do Iphone/hd radio/ satallite radio. I went with a panasonic premier unit which I do not recommend. mostly because it does not have number buttons and that makes it a pain to search through your phone and satalite stations. If I ever decide to change it up I will go with an eclipse unit, have had great experiences with those in the past.

I have an Alpine connected to my I-touch. The issue with many, not sure about all, HU's is they take command of the ipod. You don't have controle over playback via the ipod, only via the head unit.

I would say be sure to get the modifry DCI - it is awesome and lets you control the HU with the radio door closed just like the OEM radio.

Thanks for the input, guys. I am a little surprised at the lack of interest in this post. I know this is a hot topic at my local group meets so far. I'm going to build a nice mount and post my results here when it's all up and working.

I just came across this topic. In my S2000, I used the Modifry dash mount combined with a really good holder made specific for the iPhone. (I would have to go back and look for the manufacturer, I can not remember at the moment). If you are interested I would be glad to find out for you. When I first installed it, I was using a iPhone 2G that would connect into the factory radio. I really liked this set up because I controlled the music via the phone and not the radio. Currently I have a new 32 gig 3GS with an Alpine head unit. Now the radio controls the iPhone music play back. Additionally, with the new phone I had to buy the adapter that is in the picture so the phone will charge in the holder. (The 2G iPhone would charge w/out adapter). I hope that this helps you out.

***UPDATE
The mount is a Pro. Fit Holder

Now that's looking more like what I'm imagining. Although - you do have a pretty huge set of adaptors and cables. Is that iPhone talking to your ECU?

Unfortunately, the Scosche adapter is a necessary evil. You have to have it so that the iPhone will charge. The other part that you see is the place where you can unplug the iPod part of the wire if you wanted to use some kind of media player other than an iPod/ iPhone. When I had the wire that plugged into the factory head unit it was less bulky. The mount is very sturdy, I highly recommend it.

I do run a wireless OBD system for the car that is made for the iPhone. It is call Rev. It will read the OBD metrics, GPS track, data log, and reset and diagnose engine trouble codes. I just dynoed the car the other night and was able to datalog three different metrics while the car was on the dyno.

Not sure. I know that the 2G iPhone would charge. My 3GS will not without the adapter. I was told that it needs 6 volts instead of 12 volts to charge and the adapter takes the voltage down to 6. I am not sure if that is the reason, all I know is that is what it takes to work in my car with the factory radio with iPod interface or the Alpine deck that I have installed now.
