big lcd tv question
Hey, my parents are getting sony's 50 inch LCD tv. Best Buy said we need to get their monster power strip for the tv. I dont believe them one bit, but i figure some people here would know better than me. Wouldnt any surge protector do?
As long as it's a quality surge suppresor, yes. True qaulity doesn't come cheap, though. The typical $10 "surge suppressor" power strips offer practically no protection at all. Expect to spend $100+ for a quality system, and even then you have to be careful. Luckily, LCDs don't pull nearly the same power as CRTs.
definitely do not go cheap on a surge protector. however don't spend money on the overrated monster stuff. you might want to look into a combination surge protector/ups as I believe the sony lcd tvs still need power to cool down the bulb.
I have the Hitachi 50" LCD Tv...Definitely get the monster power strip. I paid like 150 for mine. Also get all the component cables you need. I bought my TV from Circuit City (i also work there). No bias but becareful of who you talk to. We have some good salesman and some jerks. I'm sure its the same with Best Buy. If you have any other questions, like audio, cables, warranties...just pm me
