Blaupunkt Saucers....
Ok fellas....time to work together on this. About a year ago I was interested in a SUBWOOFER made by blaupunkt...they were called saucers....
However...i was never able to find them for sale. I think these are a great solution for the s2000 bass problem.....so try and lookout for these things....

Nope, but I know what you're talking about. Almost no rear mounting depth but they were never produced.
Look into the Phase Linear Aliante Si
http://www.phase-linear.com/html/aliante_si.html
The 8" has a mounting depth of under 2.5", the 10" of just over 3" and they're supposed to be great for sound quality.

But don't expect much extension out of them...and you're definitely gonna have to pay a premium to have these.

Dammit..that would have made our lives so much easier....i would have shoved like 5 of those in my trunk and still carry a bag of golf clubs....
Are you sure they were never produced....cause I have seen them for sale....just that they are always out of stock everywhere.

Where did you see it for sale?
A couple Blaupunkt prototypes were made and it was scrapped because they couldn't find a build house.
Apparently, the cone was so complex that every part almost had to be custom made.
Oh yeah...other subs to check out would be the Illusion Audio LM series

The 10", 12", and 15" have mounting depths of 2.9", 3.25", and 4"

I even have a Blaupunkt brochure with them listed, but I've never been able to buy them either. Nor was I able to get tech specs from Blaupunkt, and they never would admit they were off the drawing boards, just that "they were not in production yet".
The problem with flat (or shallow) designs is cone rigidity. To keep the flat "cone" rigid (for undistorted sound) it must be made stronger and of stiffer materials, which adds weight, and while weight lowers resonance (good) it also lowers efficiency (worse). A compromise is to use an unusually large voice coil to help support the diaphram and a side effect is higher power handling (good), but again the larger coil results in lowering efficiency again (worser).
I went and checked out the Aliante unit, but it has similar design limitations as we suspected the Blau unit would have. The excursion spec on the 10" Aliante is only 3.5mm - the same as my door speakers. While 3.5mm is pretty good for a 6.5" woofer it's lousy for a 10" sub. (They cheat on their x-max specifications - you're supposed to state maximum one-way excursion, but they state both ways, which makes it look better, and don't tell you)
I ran the tech specs through a spreadsheet, and while the Aliente would work it's best in a small vented box (14 liters) it's best is not too good. The -3bd point is a decent 50 Hz, but it takes a vented box (precise box volume and port tuning) to get it, which is difficult for the average builder. And while you might think the 350 watt rms power handling is great, the cone excursion spec limits actual power input to less than 50 watts if you intend to keep the driver in one piece. Add that to unusually low efficiency (85dB - yes, they lie about that too) and the result is a small, shallow box sub that sounds like an even smaller shallow box sub.
Anybody have a link to tech specs for the Illusion Audio drivers?

I have a set of ND6's in my prelude and I like them very much, although I still had to cut part of the basket to make them fit as the basket is quite fat.

OMG! I want a six pack!
From Google here: http://www.gspr.com/blau/odwp_flat_subwoofers.html
I've been looking for them too with no luck. Oh well, post here if you find them anywhere.

Oh, and this Soundstream 8" sub looks pretty nice too, with it's 3.8" depth. http://www.soundstream.com/sub/products_su...subs_exact.html
