Blown speakers question.
Modifry - I have a question about efficiency ratings. you said :
I discovered this when searching for some high sensitivity components for my car (not amping yet). The Blaupunkts I found had a sensitivity rating @ 1 (W?) of 90 and at the 2.83 of 93. Which applies when? Is the 93 rating for high amperage applications (these are 80WRMS rated with peak at 180). I was thinking that they are 90 sensitive until you get near the 80WRMS threshold and then they step up t0 93. Please explain this rating system and what it means to your ears.
Thanks
John
Just like they cheat and list efficiency at 2.83 volts instead of 1 watt. While that is good to know, it makes direct comparisons harder.
Thanks
John
I too would like to get in on this "I'm considered an expert" promotion during the "No proof required" offer.
I've always wanted to be considered an expert, and since I have no proof whatsoever, this would be ideal for me.

Oh, wow, I had thought this was a recent thread because it was started in October. Turns out after I posted that it was October 2003 and I appear to have inadvertently resurrected a three-year-old thread
Oops...

And a fascinating thread it was. I too thought it was a current thread for a while. It was interesting to read because with a reasonable level of audio interest and an electrical eng degree, you can see where it is headed and keep thinking "yeah but" and "bullshit" and "yes, but not quite really".
<chuckle> Yeah, oneaudiopro turned out to be more of a oneaudioprowannabe. It's a shame people like that exist as it just confuses those who are ignorant of specific information but want to learn. I'm always highly amused when they say "I'm an expert", followed by "I don't have the time to prove it to you here, so send me a PM"... in other words, "I don't want everyone seeing what an idiot I can be, so let's discuss it in private"
Ok..This thread has been educational to say the least, albeit about a thousand feet above my head I feel you can always learn just by listening...or as in this case reading.
Here's my simpleton question....
Given what has been discussed, what speaker/amp combination falls into the median of the curve? I'm not concerned so much about manufacture as I am about proper balance in the environment that it will be used, i.e. a convertible at highway speed.
Lastly, I'm still a bit concerned about distortion. What causes it and how might I prevent it. Are there warning signs that it's about to occur or does it just happen.
Thanks,
Flish
