Well, I have read threads about this and have researched what is needed to install the Acura RSX-S subwoofer into an S2000 and recently took the plunge. In my first S2k, I had Lucid's rear speaker setup and really liked it. When I traded that '02 in for the one I have now, I kept the rear speakers and the upgraded door speakers I had originally installed. When working on the stereo for this car, I wanted to do it right and get it really set up the way I wanted. The Lucid rears filled in a LOT, and helped tremendously, but the low end bass just still wasn't where I wanted it.

So I took the plunge and found an RSX Subwoofer on the rsxforums.com site. I then tore apart my whole interior...pulled out the radio, center console, remove passenger seat to run wires down console under carpet, pulled trunk apart, etc. I also installed a 6-disc changer in the trunk while I was at it and it fit PERFECTLY in the indented part below the 'floor' of the trunk, where the styrofoam holds the tools in place.

I took the sub and looked at the wiring required, then got an inline fuse and wired power for the sub directly from one of the pins on the under-dash fuse panel that is hot only when the ignition is in the 'run' position. For ground, I unbolted the rear brace in the trunk below the spare tire and cleaned the paint off under the bolt, then grounded it to there. I then took the speaker input for the rear speakers and tapped off of that to the high-to-low level convertor, then ran that back to the sub.

Honestly, this sub is MORE than enough 'thump' for a car this size. I had to turn the sub WAY down by adjusting the bass settings on the stock '02 head unit so that it wouldn't overpower the regular speakers with low end output. When I open the trunk, the sub is EXTREMELY loud. I can't imagine wanting to cut a hole for the sub to transfer sound more easily into the cabin. I'm very happy with this setup!

Once these stupid storms stop going through here and the weather clears up a bit, I'll actually get the car out on the road and see how it sounds and give additional feedback later.

Congrats on the mod.

I considered doing the same thing but was concerned it wouldn't put out enough bass. Glad you like it. I'm interested to hear how it sounds on the highway...

BTW: Do you have an aftermarket exhaust or are you stock?

In all honesty, if there was more bass, not only would it be vibrating the car down the road, but the bass would be so overbearing that you would lose the actual sound of the music...

You guys must be insane!

And like I said -- I haven't had the car on the road yet, but I have turned the sub down a LOT, and it's still pretty loud. It has a lot of room to be turned up if it's not enough on the highway.

Oh, and my exhaust is stock.

There is some talks in rsxforums.com about wiring reversed on the Bose Sub.
Did you swap the Yellow and Purple wires on the Bose Sub ? The Yellow should be next to the Black (Ground) ?
If you did the swap, which one is positive ? Yellow or Purple ?
If you did not do the swap, which one is positive ? Yellow or Purple ?

Also, what 4-pins harness did you use to connect to the Bose Sub ?

Thanks

All I did was hook the wires up properly at the connector. I ended up using female spade(?) connectors on each of the individual pins on the sub. Eventually I would like to get rid of that and get the real Acura connector, but it was the weekend and I just wanted to hook it up.

The wires are still 'reversed' on the connector to the amp. I tried popping the wires out of the connector but it just wouldn't budge for some reason. I've popped those out a lot in the past with a small screwdriver, but I couldn't get it. So I just hooked up the wires to the connector the way they should be. As long as they get switched at some point before they enter the amp, that's all that matters.

Thanks Ricky,

I think this RSX-S Bose Powered Subwoofer is a good low cost addition to S2000. I bought one for $30 from rsxforums. If it does not produce enought bass for highway speed, you may want to adjust the gain control inside the Bose amp by "Open up the amp housing by push the clips in. There is a Blue pot with Yellow phillips head slot on top. This is the gain control for the amp"

Oh, thanks for the tip on that! I'll have to take a look.

Actually, I drove to work this morning with the top up just to see how it sounded, and it's almost too much bass for me right now with the top up....

When the top is down, the bass is perfect for me on the highway.
