Particle board works really good and is easy to cut. You can find matching carpet in any stereo store, even at Walmart

I haven't used Dynamet...you need to insulate certain spots once you get bassing....the car rattles but most of the rattles can be addressed.

If you are too lazy to do a board, you can simply do a single flat panel. It works just as well as a board.

I beg to differ...

1. MDF is much better for enclosures than particle board.

2. A flat panel DOES NOT work as well as a properly designed sealed or ported enclosure.

MDF is superior to particle board...yes... Particle board works just fine however.

I agree. I had two 8's with the enclosure but my two 10's w/the flat panel sound better. It could also be a combination of the components/amps....etc.

MDF > Particle Board

regarding enclosures...
actually -- both of you are wrong...

the type of enclosure you need to use is dependant upon the sub you choose.

some subs are specifically designed for 'free air' or 'infinite baffle' use and can work w/ a flat board.
this Kicker sub: http://www.crutchfield.com/S-KAO7xqbE1xQ/c...1&avf=N&search=
is an example of that type of sub...

the far majority of subs however are best used in a sealed or ported enclosure vs free air.

whatever you do though, to get your sub to sound best, look into what enclosure applications the manufacturer recommends. nothing can make a great sub sound like crap quite like a bad or misapplied enclosure.

well, actually in the S, this could work if you used the sub exactly like Z06-Killer has it setup... it's a quick and easy way to a sub install...

and i have actually seen it done like this a few times... it is a cheap and easy way to get an enclosure... and due to the lack of backpressure, you can get pretty large amounts of bass from just a little power.

i should point out however that free-air subs can be very sloppy sounding and can usually handle MUCH less power than their sealed or ported counterparts.

it's just an option, and i was pointing out that an enclosure isn't always needed.... *shrug* didn't mean to offend...
