Box dimensions... these dont make sense to me?

Box dimensions... these dont make sense to me?

So I am wondering if I should make my own sub box (cash is tight...so I gotta do my own work). These boxes look to be great., BUT, they dont make sense to me.
Reason being:
All three have totally different dimensions for the most bottom portion. If they are all resting in the area most deepest in the trunk, with the styrofoam tray removed, shouldnt they all have the same bottom base shape? I can only assume they all sit in the same spot...yet the 3 possible boxes are all different bases :
17" x 9"
17" x 13"
12" x 12"
why such a big difference??? Am I misunderstanding where these boxes are meant to be installed? Perhaps they dont sit flush in the car???

there all different because there all made differently... the top one you get the least amount of air space... and it increases as you go down the list to the 12" x12" becaue your utilizing more of the space inside of the trunk well
