Buy JL TR650-Cxi Coaxials Or Get...
I am looking to get new speakers for my s2k. I got the Pioneer P80MP HU last week and now its time for the speakers. I have a model year 2000 S2000 so they do not have pre cut holes for tweeters. Are the JL TR-650-Cxi coaxials any good? Or should I go ahead and make holes for tweeters? Also, if I should make holes, where should i put them?
The 2 sets of components that I am considering are the Polk DB6500 and the JL components. Which sets are recommended for the easiest install with no modification to the stock speaker enclosure (except of course for the tweeters)?
Any help would be appreciated.

you can put them in the doors or in the a-pilliar or kick panels. the locations are endless.
it mainly depends what you are trying to accomplish with your system.
I am probably looking to spend about 150-160 on speakers and then need to spend money on getting an amp. I am going to do the install myself so I will need to purchase all the wiring as well. I want to get a nice clean sound system. How are the JL components? They seemed pretty decent for the price. Any helpful comments would be much appreciated.
Hey-
I just did the exact same thing you are talking about around 2 weeks ago. I bought the Blaupunkt ODCa660 components (oversized woofers). They were too big to fit in the stock baskets. I had to make MDF rings as spacers and get rid of the stock baskets. The baskets only have an opening of around 5.5". Take your door panels off, remove the speakers and baskets. Take the baskets to a local audio shop and ask if they have anything that will fit these stock. I think the Infinity Reference series are pretty close.
As far as using components, I put mine under the A-pillars. I removed the A-pillar trims, drilled a speaker grill pattern at the bottom near the windshield, and stuck the tweeters in the gap under the base of the A-pillars firing up and back toward the driver. Some people think that separating the highs and mids is bad for soundstage production, but mine sound good. You just need to tune them accordingly. In order to fit them, its kinda tight. You will need to get a strip of aluminum or someother pliable material and set the tweeters to those, and either glue or screw the metal into something under the dash (plastic trim or other stuff nearby) to hold the tweeters in place. Not a huge problem. I did this install because I did not want anyone to know I had an aftermarket system....so there are no temptations to cut the top. My system looks like a completely stock 2000 S2000 system with the radio door up....except for the drilled A-pillars....but those are out of the way and you would have to look for them to even realize they are there.
I will try to post pics as soon as I finish.....installing amp and sub tonight / tomorrow.

JL is a quality company. I like their stuff, but it is a bit pricey for me. Boston Accoustic and JL are my favorite...but you pay for what you get. The Blau's I got were $45 or so online, because they were last years model. Retail is supposedly $295. Got them from www.ikesound.com
