Just wondering if these will work. Planning on installing speakers that are 2 7/16" deep and trying not to cut basket unless really necessary.

Thanks.

Yes, they will hit. If you look at my recent installation, with a combined spacer/speaker rim height of 1 3/8" I was hitting the door deeply.

I wouldn't be concerned about cutting the basket, it isn't terribly important... In fact, why not remove the basket, make your own MDF spacer?

Thanks for the replies guys. If I were to make my own spacers, how thick would I be able to make them without hitting the door panel?

I have seen people making their spacers 3/4", and mounting Focal Utopias which are about as big as they come. I think mine ended up a little larger that that and I had some clearance to my magnet

How much space do you need?

3/4" sounds good, I only need to make space for a 2 7/16" mounting depth. thanks.

3/4" MDF will work and the door pannel still fits on the door. I have Focal 165W Utopias that require a mounting depth of 3". I have no problem with any rubbing issues when the window is down using a 3/4" spacer.

for people with the utopia's, at higher volumes, do your speakers seem like they are slapping the door pannels???

No, but I have flattened my woofers out with too much signal several times - if you hear that blattt sound you are probably driving them beyond their range of extension... tune down the low end of the midbass and you will be OK.

Is THAT how you have gone through 2 sets of Utopias?
