Can I shut off the odometer??
You can read the whole thing (link below) but in sumation:
- Odometer fraud is a federal crime
- They typically tack on money laundering and mail fraud just to push the penalty up a bit
- not a good idea to post your criminal desires in a public forum

I remember a while back an s2000 member got a new HUD because the orange plastic in the displays was messed up for some reason. when he got the dealer to put a new one in, his mileage was reset to 0. so the mileage is stored in the HUD. So you could go to hondaautomotiveparts.com and buy a new HUD and put it in and you would have 0 miles on it.
although this would be illegal if you didn't write down the mileage on your old HUD and report it when you return your car at the end of the lease and notify the dealer.

Wow, it is an interesting question, at the same time royallly stupid!
Hey man, you were the one that had to keep tabs on your lease miles, if you knew you were coming close you should have taken that into consideration before driving past your limit...
Also, don't come onto the board and ask advice on an illegal matter that could, in essance, cause one of us to become an accessory to fraud...that's F'd up!

I think this question actually raises a very serious issue. Honda should have done something better about logging the miles. I've seen gauge clustors being sold on ebay that advertise the miles they have on them. This is no secret.
If you have a car with 100,000 miles on it and you buy a clustor on ebay with 30,000 miles and put it in your car it will show 30,000 miles and there's really no way to challenge it unless the car had been to one of the places that reports to CarFax/etc.
I'm leasing my car as well, but would never do such a thing. It's cheaper to buy extra miles than what you'd pay for a felony in the long run.
wrxxed: Instead of comiting fraud, you should call the leasing co and ask them for more miles before lease end - you might get them cheaper than what they'd cost you at lease end.

No way......
Although I have never done it on an s2000, im pretty sure that all cars made/imported in the US have to follow the same regulations and that includes odemeters. Yes you can reset the numbers on the hud, but dealers DO NOT EVEN LOOK AT THAT when you trade your car in or something like that. BMW has a "black box" under the car and somewhere inside the hood that keeps track of mileage, so I am CERTAIN that honda has something of the same thing.....like ECU or something of the sort. There is no way in hell changing the cluster would give you new mileage.
