can you amp up standard unit?
hi guys
i have a 99 S2K and want to amp up the standard unit
problem is that i dont think it has a pre out like other units so i cant amp it up.
i want to know if i can amp up the standard 2 channel unit , then split the 2 channels to 4 and add a sub...?
i doont want to spend too much and not looking for a showcar system
just something decent enought to cruise to.
i dotn want to go through the headache of getting a DCI and aftermarket HU.
if it is possible to amp up can someone please direct me to a diagram or if so how to do it?
also do you know if there is pre outs on the standard unit?

Yes, you can amp it. Look up Line Level Converter on the internet and that's what you need to add preouts to your stock deck. It's about 10-20 bucks. Be warned though, it'll sound like crap because you're just amplifing a crappy signal.
or get an amp that has high level line input signals like the Alpine MRP models. they work great clean sounding good power!!!
JL amps also accept high level line input but you will have to fabricate your own RCA to speaker wire adapter or buy the expensive JL adapters.

The cheap Rockford, Scosch, and the no name brand ones are horrible your simply just trying to clean up a crappy signal with a crappy product to produce a compleatly cparry output.
Get PAC or JL then your good to go. PAC is about 30 bucks JL's is about 250

if you get a good quality line output converter you will get a true sound. PAC has a good adjustable one same as JL's Clean sweap.

for 250$ a new head unit can be purchased.
for OG, a LOC is okay, just leave EQ flat and tune amp at reasonable level... not when HU starts sending distorted/clipped signals

Speaker Level
And
Line Level
Speaker level output is what comes out of the Head Unit (radio/deck ec.) and as its name describes is used to drive speakers.
Line Level is most commonly associated with RCA plugs and is a low level signal that is then amplified.
A line level converter is a device that converts speaker level to line level for use with an amplifier.
Some amplifiers accept Speaker level input, some don't.
You should buy a line level converther and an amp OR an amp the accepts speaker level input.

ive bout a converter (could be the one your talking about)
it converts the unit speaker wire into RCA
other then that should there be anough power fromthe unit to let or a decent quality sound?

At one point my setup was:
OEM MY00 headunit -> line level converter -> 4ch amp driving front and rear spakers -> RCA connection to 2ch amp in bridge mode driving a 10" sub in the trunk.
I thought it sounded great.
(Until it broke. Speakers literally shook apart. The 2ch amp shorted and kept blowing its own fuse, and the 4ch amp kept draining my battery and eventually blew the fuse for my turn signals.)
