Default Car alarm with remote start.

Hey guys, I am looking to get an alarm system very soon with remote start. I talked to a place and they said that they can't install the remote start on manuals... I was curious if I can do it myself? Is that possible? Thanks.

Sann

PS- I did do a search and nothing came up.

Sure you can... but I'm not going to tell you how. Those guys at your shop don't want to install it for a reason. That reason being if you start your car in gear your car will drive off by itself even if you have the e-brake on. And yes this will drag your car into the woods... I know a guy that did it... in front of all his co-workers at a nice eating establishment... made a fool of himself...

Basically don't do it.

Oh really.. I was thinkin that i would make the same mistake, but i NEVER put my car into gear... That is just because my previous car had a turbo timer, so i never had it in gear anyway... just ebrake.. is that good enough to have a remote start ;-)

You can disable the safety clutch and use remote start, I did it on my '87 conquest tsi. But, I wired in a relay that would not allow the signal to pass to the starter unless the e-brake was on. I never leave my car in gear either, so I didn't worry about it, and never had a problem.

I got a compustar with remote start on my S, just get in the habbit of not putting your S in gears before you decide to install the remote start. Also with a compustar you have to step on the brake pedal and at the same time pull up on the e-brake to engage remote start when you shut your vehicle off so you'll always remember that it's not in gear. Not only that but with compustar when you pull the key out the ignition the car remains running (that's if you had engaged in remote start) until you shut either the passenger or driver side door while exiting the car, kind of like a turbo timer but shuts off when either doors are shut. With compustar you'll always have to engage it into remote start so you'll always remember whether it's in gear or not, it's not like them other alarm system out there that remote starts whenever by just shutting your car off normally so you forget if you had it in gear or not. Also don't lend your S or car to anyone else that doesn't know that you have a remote starter installed on your manual tranny vehicle, if you do then make sure they know you got a remote starter installed and not to leave it in gear. My bro has a Python remote pager alarm on his 4th gen Lude and after a bro-inlaw took his car out to the corner store and back, he's the type that leaves the car in gear so without knowing my bro started the car with his remote and his Lude jumped (hopped) about three times 'til it hit the rear bumper of my other bro's 01 CL type-S.

Compustar has a system that will allow remote starts. Basically, you get out of the car while its running, and use a fob button to kill the engine and lock the car. The premise is that the car is out of gear and locked when it shuts off, so its the same when you remote start.

John i beg to differ

I've had my remote start for three months now and there is no way the car will drive off or even activate unless i perform a sequence of events to ensure the car is in natural before the system will allow a remote start.

Essentially when I want to activate the remote start function
