Car alarm with remote start.
hey guys, I just went to a shop, and i am getting a system that has remote start and they will install it. it is basicly like what you guys are talking about, but the brand is ScyTek, has anyone used it before? They said that this system will prevent me from leaving the car in gear. What is also cool about it, is that it has a color LCD screen on the remote.. hehe. $650 installed...
Dookiewhat, I bought my Compustar for $500.00 even plus installation and it come with a lcd remote pager system. I think I'm gonna get that microwave sensor or whatever it's call, it's the piece that when you leave your windows or converitble down if anything should get pass your window the alarm will activate. Not that I'm ever going to leave my top down and walk away but just in case I'm doing something outside or move the car out to clean the garage, also if I need to run inside for a quick tool or item that it'll be somewhat protected for the time being. In my own opinion Compustar is one of the best alarm out there for alarm system, that's my .02cent. Anyone bought a S with factory alarm? I hear that it can easily be terminated by simply placing a huge magnet over the right spot on top of the hood, not just a S factory alarm but all makes and model.

I've had my remote start for three months now and there is no way the car will drive off or even activate unless i perform a sequence of events to ensure the car is in natural before the system will allow a remote start.
Essentially when I want to activate the remote start function

Here is the other side of the coin that you guys are missing.
Do some searchs and you can find a LOT of reports of people's cars rolling away because they don't keep the car in gear. The handbrake has been shown to NOT be an effective method of ensuring your car will be where you left it when you get back.
I've had a remote start on every AUTOMATIC transmission car I've owned since 1997. I love remote start. It's the cat's ass. I will never, EVER install one on a manual transmission car.
Can it be done? Of course.
Can it be made 100% safe? NO.

it bypasses it only when you remote start. otherwise the immobilizer is still fully functional.

....
$650 dollars for a remote start sound completely retarded to me, but its not my money so I don't care. But there is no way on god's green earth I would drop that much cash for a remote starter,... I'd just take the 3 minutes to run out to the car and put the key in it.
I've seen plenty of people like you Steve that have them installed but most don't have the safety features, but I still say don't do it... and definately not for $650 bucks!!! That price is completely obscene!

actually my price was a bit lower than $650.00 BUT i also added a full alarm, remote auto up/down windows, proxy and a shock sensor - i also received a GREAT NES2KO discount
ask me tomorrow morning what the remote start is worth to me and i'll say a million bucks (because i don't have a garage and we are getting another foot of snow)
other people spend so much more than $650.00 on a killer stereo equipment, a PS2, screen, leds, a kick ass sub set-up, carbon fiber etc etc
ruexp67 does raise a valid point about our e-brakes - they do not hold very well my driveway is completely level as is my office spot so there is no chance of the car rolling
oh and my lcd 2 way remote is wicked awesome (it even tells me the temp inside my car while it's running so that i can wait till it's a toastie 70 degrees before i get in)
