Default car battery is dead as a doornail

My car has been sitting for a few months, and the battery won't hold a charge. I heard the optima red or yellow top is a great replacement for an old one. Does anyone know the part # to the battery?

Thanks for the help,

-Josh

Hey just a heads up- I ordered an optima yellowtop from amazon recently b/c my battery had died just like yours; but mine had arrived DOA(dead on arrival.) You might have better luck than me but do a search on optima and you might find that they're not that reliable(something to do with different batches being manufactured differently.)

Don't see any reason not to get an oem battery.

i recently (in the last yr and half) picked up 2 OEM batteries. One for my civic and one for the s2000, and they have a 10yr 100,000mi warranty on them. might want to check out your dealership before you decide.

Over the years I've concluded if your car sits for several months, then the Optima is probably worth the money. If it's driven at least every two to three months, then an OEM, Diehard or Duralast with a Battery Tender is probably the best way to go...I've actually got a Duralast in my S2K and have an Optima (red top) in my Vette.

I just had another seizure last week, and it's going to be another 6 months until I can drive it... I will have some friends take it out once in awhile, but it will be sitting most of the time.

if you do buy a new batt, eitehr get a battery tender/maintenance charger or have a friend drive it like you said.

i personally, for the cost would go with the OEM. its got twice the cranking amps of the optima (optima has the lowest ive seen in a while at 450) and its half the price even from a dealer. i got mine for 89 bucks. optima was like 175 or 150 for the yellow top.

Wow I actually never thought about looking at the stats for the optima when it came to cca. I just figured they would be sufficient. My battery booster has 600-700 cold crank amps... You should of said something along the lines of "Tommy you're pathetic..." In all seriousness though, thanks for the heads up. I will pay a little more attention to what I am looking for .
