The power is sipplied by an OPUS 150W power supply. It's a "smart" ps which turns the PC on when the key goes to accessory and turns it off 10 secs after the key is removed. This gives windows enough time to properly shut down. The computer itself is based on a Jetway Via motherboard with the C7 1.5gig processor. It runs really cool as it's a low voltage processor. I have yet to have any overheating issues in FL The OS is XP and the main program is Streetdeck, which uses Microsoft Mappoint as it's navigation software.

You're nuts but ... sweeeeeeeeeet!
how long did that install take you? and how much? They should make something like that an option for the S.

What Jetway MB are you using, the only micro-itx one I've seen is 24W (which, while may be low is about double the other mini-itx boards)... and, that PC case is absolutely huge!

I like StreetDeck, but $200 for the software is a bit much IMHO. If you look at that site (which I've been mulling over for a while now) there are so many free, open source, front ends available and I have to wonder how much of that source was probably stolen for StreetDeck. I also don't like the fact that, due to it's anti-piracy solution you can't run it off of a USB-Key.

With that said, it does look to be one of the nicest solutions out there that you just plug in and it works, but I'm a tweaker anyway so probably not the right choice for me... although I'm still curious to hear why you went with SD (wondering if there's something I'm not aware of that makes it a better choice for me).

How long is your bootup time? (I've heard or anything from rediculous 4-5 seconds to 15 seconds+ on a tweaked Windows XP)

To bad you have to cut your dash to do this or I would be all over it. (Well you don't have to, but it's the nicest looking solution IMHO.)

Very nice...trunk isnt my thing, but the monitor and computer came out very nicely.

what frontend are you running? that's tight, and i've got a bud who's doing his wife's SUV w/ a in car PC... we were talking about frontends the other week.

also, what are you booting off? HD? how fast? etc?

i'd be interested if something like that could be booted off of a large flash drive (for speed), and use the HD for raw storage.

The mobo is a Jetway J7F2. The only reason I went with StreetDeck is because of the way they intagrated mappoint. I think it's the most OEM looking solution. Plus it's $200 cost includes mappoint which will cost you that much if you just buy it alone.

Boot time isn't too bad. I think it's right around 10 seconds off the HD, which works for me...gives me time to drop the top and put on my seatbelt. It could be much less if I left the system in standby or hibernation...but I don't drive the car daily so I'm sure the battery would die.

Wow, 10 seconds sure isn't bad for a full boot cycle. The 4-5 is people running in hibernation mode. Hibernating does not require any power usage and won't drain your battery as long as you have a controller that will cut power after X seconds in case the computer hangs on shutdown.
