no, one won't cut it - the unit backs itself into the vents after it opens up - what we're doing is giving it clearance so when it settles into place, it doesn't back into the vents. the first angle setting isn't angled, it's just forward a bit, which clears just fine - but it still backs into the vents before coming forward. the washers stopped that - now at full back position, it just barely touches the vent. no strain, no stress, just rests on it. of course, i use the angles, so that's a non-issue for me. exactly how many washers? i can't say - yours may be different than mine, but i believe i used 2 thicker ones... i might fine tune it further, but it's ok enough for now.

Here's a pic of the screws Lightning is talking about:

The middle screw is not removed to take out the radio, just the top & bottom ones attached to the bracket.

no. the door will not close when the unit is on, and the unit is off when it is retracted. no stealth to be had here.

So what did you use to keep your dash controls with this unit, or are you keeping them?

this is the third radio i've had in the car in the last 6 months - haven't had dash controls since the first one - i'd meant to do the PAC thing, or perhaps now the sidewinder thing, but i'm still unsure - i'm also developing my own thing, which will take some time to get done. so for now, i'm completely used to using the radio itself, and don't even miss the audio controls; they weren't in any other car, so things feel normal to me. plus, that leaves that console open to do other things, should i choose not to use a remote there. what other things, you may ask? only the shadow knows. or, only lightning knows. for now.
