Default Cold Heat Soldering... thing?

Kinda off topic, but does anybody out there have one of those Cold Heat soldering tools? I've seen the infomercials that make it look like God's gift to soldering, but hesitant to dump money on it if it's a piece. It seems like it'd be convenient for working in tight spaces under the dash or wherever since it's cordless, but I doubt it works as well as they show on TV. Can anyone comment?

I bought it and I didn't get it to work too well. The tip barely got hot enough to melt the solder. Switched to my regular soldering iron and put the Cold Heat back in it's case. Probably works well but I couldn't get it to work right.

I hear it sparks when you touch metal with the tip.

that's probably how it makes it's heat to melt the solder... creates a high voltage arc....

I do wire/board/circut repairs daily. This was a stocking stuffer from someone with a sense of humour. I took it out, used it once, and it hit the trash. Matter of fact, the carbon tip chipped itself first time out of the gate. It then had a bad point. Replacement tips were stupid expensive. STAY AWAY from this shite.

I saw a demo of this thing at a shopping mall "as seen on TV" store. They made it look like it worked wonderfully. I picked up the demo unit and noted it was somewhat heavier than one of the "for sale" units sitting on another counter. I asked if there was a difference and the guy told me that they were the same - but would not let me handle the demo unit any longer.

I have a Weller Professional Butane Soldering Iron, heats up in less than 30 seconds, works great. Also have a couple of corded units.
