Comments on Blaupunkt?
I am considering buying the Blaupunkt Munchen or San Francisco. They have the best stats that I have found, and there are some excellent discounts available. The San Francisco even has an automatic EQ/volume control based on cabin noise.
Does anyone have any pro or anti-Blaupunkt comments? I am interested especially in problems with the CD skipping or possible reliability concerns.
Thanks,
Tanq

I have been using the Casablanca for about 6months now and am very pleased. I have never had the CD skip and find the quality of the unit to be top notch. The Casablanca has a ton of custom settings, including Power-on volume so I never have to worry about blasting my ears when I start the car. It can also vary its volume via the car's Vehicle Speed Sensor but doesn't do such a great job of it. I think the microphone tied to the equalizer method in the SanFran is much better.
Despite the lousy antenna, the tuner is top notch for both AM and FM and the sensitivity is programmable as well. This thing has perhaps the best tuner I've heard in a sub $800 deck.
Unfortunately it's been a struggle to get the dash controls set just the way I want them with the PAC controller. If you map the source button from the thummer remote, you switch between Radio, CD, and any Aux connections you might have. You then have to go to the head unit to move between FM1-3 and AM. Additionally, if I set the channel button to skip to the next track when playing a CD, it does a scan on the radio rather than going to the next preset. If I set the chan button to step through the radio presets then it simply fast forwards the CD. Aaagh!
I'm even contemplating moving to the SanFran shortly.
Despite what some so-called experts here say, I think you'll be very pleased with the Blaupunkt.
