Component Speaker
The Focal Polyglass series runs right in the price range of the Hexes...
Personally, I don't like MB Quart - they're too "bright" for my tastes. I listened to a lot of speakers before deciding on the Hex series with the silk dome tweeters. Sure, they don't hit 30kHz, but...wtf do I care, most audio playback is limited to 25kHz by the HU and amps anyway...lol But, that's my personal taste. Go listen to them. Pick a CD that will stress the entire range from 50Hz-22kHz (classical or something like Hendrix or Stevie Ray Vaughn with lots of intricate guitar work) and go listen to the different speakers. If you can, try to use whichever HU you're going to purchase to play the CD through the different component sets (remember, it's not just the speakers, it's the way the HU reproduces the sound and the way the amplifier...amplifies...the sound that affect overall sound quality).
Hertz is a high end component set as is the JL z-series (but they'll probably run a bit more than the Focal and Hexes).

Honestly, I love the hexes. I have yet to hear anyone who had them and didn't like them. Not the best on the market, but damn good for the price. They hit low (enough bass to still feel it with the top down on the highway), and cover the highs clearly without being so bright it makes your ears bleed.
Only speakers I've heard that I thought were better are the ID Chameleons (won't fit without serious modification, too deep...and not much better anyway) and Hertz...

I personally have Focal 165 v2 and they rock my soxs....
I'd recommend the Pioneer Premiere C720PRS at your price range. This is one of the top price/performance components that you can get. MSRP is $550 and you can find it cheaper online - I've seen < $300. This set has good bass extension which will get you the midbass you need for most of the music you are planning to play - except Rock, since the tweet is warmer. It's a give and take. It also has excellent review from CAE:

Tricky part is to get this to fit. These are not OEM drop-ins. I have done some measurements and the fit will be very close even with a 3/4" deep baffle because of the large magnet. I'd get the exact measurements to be sure but I've read others have no problem installing them in the S.
I've seen a better comp set at this price range yet. Let me know if you find one as I'm looking for an upgrade myself from my CDT. Looking at the Zapco, Scans, and Hertz Mille right now.

[QUOTE]Just installed Polk MMC6500 in my S2K. Love em!!! Set the crossover -3db and you're set to go. Cool thing is they come with a spacer ring that bolts right into our cars...no drilling required...no cutting the stock one or making a MDF one.
I love my quarts. Everyone bashes them as to bright. Just do what everyone else does set the tweets at -3db and they sound awesome. Plenty of bass and i do not have asub.

thank for all the post guys, I appreciate all the help and finally decided to go with the Polk sr6500. I found them from 500 all the way to 750 and don't know where I should buy it from. Should I go with a reliable company like Crutchfield, but they selling it for 750 lol and sonix electronic is at 500?
