Component Speakers Recommendation..
pioneer's deh-p800prs and deh-p880prs have a great auto-EQ and TA function that sets itself with a mic, then you can fine tune to your tastes with a 16-band EQ. that's what I bought. i also like the aesthetics of the pioneer more than the comparable alpine or eclipse units.
most of the alpines support IMPRINT, which does a better job than the auto-settings of the pioneers, but unlike the pioneers, you're set with the tune imprint gives. you also have to purchase it separately for around $100 IIRC, so budget accordingly if you do so.
no, an equalizer isn't necessary, but the equalizer makes a lot more adjustments than the +/- 1-3dB across the range the speakers would need if the speaker output alone were my variable. there are a lot of acoustic effects that need to be cancelled for great sound. i also like the time alignment. it just makes a good thing a little better.
have a look at this thread on IMPRINT's auto adjustments to get an idea of what the acoustics of the s2000 do:

the pioneer doesn't tell you what it adjusted, so i can't give you a comparable one. but it makes a very noticeable improvement in sound when i have the auto-EQ on versus off. everyone that's listened to it--some of whom know nothing about quality audio--can tell the difference and prefers the equalized sound.
if you want to spend a fair bit of money, i'd recommend figuring out just how much you want to spend and then trolling the forum www.diymobileaudio.com for a while to see what people say about the options you find appealing.

Just bought and installed my head unit! Ended up going with the Pioneer P7000BT....love it so far!
It turns out that my amp sucks really bad and I'll have to get a new one. I'm waiting to hear back from the shop to see if they can get me the PPI 356cs.
Do i need 1 amp? 2 amps? 2 channel? 4 channel? I have little clue to how this works. Is there a specific amp anyone recommends?
Can one amp power my woofer (1-10" woofer) and components?
Help!

I have Boston Acoustic Pro 60 SE components in my mine with dynamat in the doors and they sound GREAT! I just used the included spacers and they fit no problem. Found them at Sonic Electronics for $289 (suggested retail is $599). One key to getting good sound out of any speakers you buy is using a decent amplifier and HU for good clean sound. I have Alpine myself and have always been very happy with their stuff.
Thanks for the feedback. I think $289 is a bit out of my range. I'd prefer to spend under or around $200 on the components. I'm thinking that should be enough to get some decent ones.

I've got polk audio db6501s and I'm happy with them.. as far as amp recommendations go, look at HarmanAudio (ebay seller)... its JBL/Infinity/Harmon Kardon and they sell refurb'd amps at super low prices, direct from the factory, and with a 3 yr warranty.
forogt to mention... iv read some good things about these
