Default components with stock HU?

Hi guys, I have a quick question for you. I am buying the Spods and need to make a decision about speakers. I was going to get some MBquart components for them, but some people have expressed reservations about using component speakers without an external amp. I dont want to change the HU and would prefer not to amp the system. Any recommendations? Brands, components, gimma what you got. Thank you, amazing knowledge in this forum.

Get yourself a set of the MY'02' and up stock speakers. I wouldn't get those Quarts... Your stock HU doesn't have the power to push them.

Coax or Componants won't matter to much... either way will work. Since your not going to be changing anything else it will be a total waste to drop a bunch of money on really nice speakers.

Thanks for the advice. My wife bought me the honda seat speakers for christmas and when I heard how much they cost, and then the cost for install...those Spods started sounding really good.

Now I just have to pick some speakers to put in them.

I have some cheap Blaupunct components ($50 clearance at crutchfield) in the pods and they work great. Make sure the sensitivity is good enough that you won't be stressing you HU to hear them.

Most S-Pod owners go with components, and spend $100-$150 for a pair. I personally installed a set of $75 Pioneer coaxials in the first set of S-Pods. I was happy with them untill I heard a customers car with components. I then bought a pair of Crystal components for $130, and the difference was amazing! (both were origionally powered off the HU)(all prices quoted were retail 3yrs ago) This is why 95% of the S-Pods I sell are cut for components, they are worth spending a little more for. MB Quarts are difficult to install(may require cutting of the speaker mounting plate) and expensive. A couple owners have been successful, but in my opinion it's not worth spending that much on speakers for rear fill.

Make sure the sensitivity is good enough that you won't be stressing you HU to hear them.
good advice for components or coaxials.

very good advice.

Marks,

Here is the million dollar question...what speakers should I get, from your experience? I am looking to spend under $200 for the speakers.

I know this is a decision that everyone has a different opinion about, but not being an audiophile myself, I have no idea. Once I get the speakers, I will order the Spods.

Most of my customers have gone with Alpine or Infinity components. Some have found specials on the net for about $100 or less on speakers origionally retailing over $200. It's always nice to listen to a few choices at a major retailer, then search for deals if you plan to do the install yourself. If you have someone do the installation they shouldn't charge more than $50-$60, and may only do it if you buy from them.

This is the best deal I've heard of, it pays to shop around.

Thanks. I'll do that. What is the sensitivity rating/threshold on the specs of the speaker that I should look for?

I'm not the most qualified to answer this one. If nobody answers in this thread, it may help to start a new one.
