IMO, an alarm is still just a noise maker, and if its not custom installed with its own back up power source, they are all easily defeated, so no sense spending a ton of money on one.
The guys in the OP obviously didn't care about the alarm since they were still working on the car after the alarm went off. I'd rather spend the money on a basic alarm that offered good features (like auto up/down windows, maybe remote start, and a motion sensor), seat locks, wheel locks, and a maybe separate fuel cut off instead of an $800 alarm system.
Of course, I don't keep anything in my car either, so there's not much to steal except the actual car or parts off it, so that may color my thinking.

Sorry to hear about your car. At least you stopped them from completely trashing the whole thing.
Too bad it's illegal to shoot people like this
So, is your insurance going to pay for all the damages?

Are there any alarm systems that can just call my cell phone or send me a message? I'd prefer not to have to have a huge pager like that clipped to my keyring.

w00w~ how much did the whole alarm system and install cost you? I really don't like the OEM Honda alarm. It's not even from Honda, but some crappy American company I've never heard of. I'm not sure if I got gyped or not.

really appreciate your concern. I had a 750$ deductible and had to pay that in whole, the total charges were about 1200$ (
