Default Computer question....

My PDA has both Wi-FI and bluetooth.....

Is it possible to go online and stuff with my PDA using bluetooth (if I have a bluetooth PC) or is it only Wi-Fi that is capable of online??

In the US, Bluetooth wireless hotspots are not as popular as WiFi is. If your PDA was WiFi, then you would be able to get access via hotspots all over and would be golden. The two best ways to get access over BT are:

1. Connect via BT to your computer, then surf out the computer's connection

2. Get a BT cell phone and connect to the internet via the phone (controlled via BT from the PDA.)

No no no.....

I have a PC at home with a cable internet connection.

I have a Dell Pocket PC with bluetooth AND wifi.

I want to browse the net on my pocket pc.

I have a bluetooth adapter on my PC, but I dont have wifi. I was wondering is bluetooth is the same as wifi? Can I use bluetooth for wireless internet, or is it only wifi?

Yes, Yes, Yes....

If you had BT on the desktop at home, you could connect to it within range from your PDA (mabey your garage, or living room) to get internet access through the cable modem to the PDA.

You could also connect via WiFi directly to the internet if you found a WiFi base station (or hot spot.)

BT is NOT the same as WiFi. You CAN use BT to get to the internet, but only with some intermediary as a conduit. Either a cell phone or the desktop unit.

Excellent choice with going with the WiFi. I believe 30 feets is the effective range of Bluetooth, but WiFi it's much farther.

Be sure to check out PocketPC.com for websites designed to be viewed on the Pocket PC platform.

BTW S2Ki looks like shit on it, but there's talk of a PPC skin available when the redesign is released.

Think of WiFi as a replacement for blue network cable. Think of BlueTooth as a replacement for a serial or USB cable. So whereas Wifi is a way of connecting to networks, BlueTooth is a way of connecting to devices.

We're setting up a WiFi Hotspot company here at present and have written software to authenticate users and allow timed or time limited access. What I'm about to play with is PDA access and will be ordering a Dell Axim tomorrow.

Our system uses javascript to pop up a window when a user tries to access a web page. The window is used for authentication and logging. Anyone know if Windows Mobile 2004 supports Javascript popup windows?

Also, are any hotspots providing BlueTooth internet access? I guess it's feasible just as it is feasible to use you desktop as a conduit to the internet with BlueTooth.

It is from my understanding that Windows Mobile doesn't support JavaScript. It's been a long time since I network surfed from my HP PocketPC, but I'm pretty sure Pocket Internet Explorer just skips over scripting.

I could be wrong though.
