Default Connecting an iPod to car stereo or amp

I just bought my S2000 a couple weeks ago and obviously it is amazing... I had a 350 watt Kenwood amp installed and a 10" sub in the trunk. Sounds much better. I don't rattle windows, just wanted to hear my Blasck Sabbath at 80mph...

I wanted to take an iPod or a portable MP3 player and connect it to the system instead of a CD changer which would take up even more trunk space! Does anyone know how to do that? I would want to have a jack that just plugs into the portable player and I can listen.

Or, is there a small, low-profile CD changer that plays MP3 or Windows Media CDs? I don't want to change the stock deck out because I am leasing and because I like the cool controls on the left of the dash.

Lots of questions... any answers?

Thanks

A number of us use the Aux adapter from P.I.E. Check out this old thread about it.

Well, you already ran an amp and sub, why not a HU too? You can get an adapter that plugs into the factory harness and then you can connect it to your new HU harness. For the dash controls look at either Lucid's DCI or DJ Cube's controller. The DJ Cube option, might not be desireable for you as you cannot just put it back to stock. However, if you save the HU, you can easily just rip and replace with the factory when your lease is up.

I have an RCA to Mini Jack connector that I am going to try to run from my HU to the glove compartment. Then I can put my iPod in there and play it throught the system. The HU also plays MP3's so I will be completely set without a changer.

If I do decide to put in a changer, it will mount to the bottom of the drivers seat. No loss of trunk space.

BTW -- My amp is going to replace my spare tire, and I have not decided if I will run a sub yet. If I do run a sub it will be with the WLaurent enclosure which takes up a minimum of space.

Now I am looking for a way to power the iPod too. They make a car adapter, but it's a coil cable. I'll let you guys know what I find.

Excellent. You guys rock! It looks like I need an FM transmitter like the link that ruexp67 posted. They have a few different FM transmitters.

The sound may not be as good as a hardwire RCA, but I like the portability and the ease of the transmitter. I am off to the store!

Thanks everyone. This is a great resource. Hopefully I can be a help to others sometime... Happy driving!

The iRok or iRock actually sucks pretty bad, I would avoid that model.

These things have a very low power transmitter, and I have not gotten any decent usage out of this particular one.

Part of the problem is that every preset transmission frequency is occupied or next to a station with a lot of bleed-over here in L.A.

Think about a Phatbox instead of a CD/MP3. It will install like a CD player, I've heard it will install under the driver's seat, and it will play just about every audio format you can find.

It is expensive, particularly if you go with the larger hard drive, but it should be good.

I say it "should be good" - I have one on order, and expect delivery in about a week.

Go to www.phatnoise.com to check this out.

There has been a similiar discussion about this topic at ClubB5 (Passat forum). Heres a link to a topic talking about an interface that allows up to 3 different devices to be connected to the CD changer cable will retaining the use of the CD changer. Perhaps they have a hook up for Honda OEM headunits.
