Default Considering this system

This is where I think I am going:

Alpine ida-x100
Alpine spr-17s
Alpine spr-13s (in spods I already have)
Alpine PDX-5
JL 10W1v2 in the passenger footwell (a la Modifry, - I have to have my trunk floor)
Modifry dci
iphone 3g (Modifry vs Pro-fit mount)

Suggestions on the sub, etc.?
Thanks

i have an 8" jl in the footwell, it sucks for tall passengers but if you want something that sounds great in the car and is hardly noticeable outside, your on the right track.

Can you PM me a price breakdown for all those components? Hard to shop around when I don't know what you've got budgeted for your subwoofer setup (which you seem pretty set on).

PM sent.

Is there any experience with the slimline (reduced depth) subs in the passenger footwell area?

not sure. I know that Stereo Integrity (www.stereointegrity.com) has a new slim 10" sub in the works. Should be coming out sometime in the next 3-6 months.

Come down to Wappingers sometime, I'll show you my setup and we can figure out what you want to do with yours. And then when you get all the components, I'll help you install it all

what are you budgeting for the two sets of component speakers? have you listened to the alpines vs other brands, or were you just trying to keep everything the same? there is no real "synergy" to be had by choosing their speakers over another just because you're using their HU and amp.

i'd try to listen to a number of different options, as your speakers will have the most impact on the sound signature of your system, and different brands can sound quite different, which may or may not be to your liking (brand X could be "bright" to one person, but "detailed" to another, while brand Y could be "smooth" to one, but "rolled-off" or "dull" to another).

for reference, i am running an alpine based system as well, IDA-X001, an older mrv-545 amp, with a/d/s components (new old stock from ebay) and a seas lotus sub in a custom trunkwell enclosure (purchased from a forum member). i am not up to date on the various JL lines, but have been impressed with their offerings in general.

JL does make some great products...but they're expensive due to the name. Not that they're not worth the price, just that you can find equivalent/better quality for the same or less.

If you like JL's stuff, like I do, you can find excellent prices on last generation but still new-in-box amps.
