Why not just get something like this?

Or even just one of these.... with a battery and a power inverter, you would be set to plug and go. A bit pricey, but its a Behringer... (get a smaller variant.... just a powered amp in general).

did i mention i'm taking his on he river? I dont think i could bring the guitar amplifier on the river. a little water would ruin that, plus how do you get power to it?
I'm doing this all on a budget. Im probably not trying to spend more than $50. Im picking up some 6x9 speakers for $11 on ebay
Type: Full-Range Speaker(s) Size: 5x7 inch
Brand: JBL RMS Wattage: 180
Model: GTO7525
supposedly good bang for buck. Then i will just use my stereo reciever from my house.
I just need to know how to get power to it.

^ Well, technically a little water will ruin any electronics. Just get one that is compact enough to fit in a cooler... Seems like your main goal is to play iPod loud as hell on a river. This would accomplish that.
All those components put together, plus a car battery, are probably larger than a guitar amp. The amp will also sound 1000x better, as its enclosure has been sound tuned.
You would power it through an inverter hooked to the car battery (marine deep-cycle recommended vs. dry cell for better life). You would need one of these anyways, as your home receiver runs on 120V AC, not 12V DC that the battery would provide. It probably would not even start up.
Here is a link to the type of inverter I am talking about:

IMO, it will not last long if you are running it constantly. The only reason it does not kill out car batteries really quickly is the motor alternator... you will not have this recharge happening when out on the river... more power = less play time.

Let see here...
40 yard radius on river...
$50 dollar budget...
No knowledge of electronics...
Cooler big enough to hold equipment and not sink.....$40
Crappy speakers off of e-bay..................................$11
Deck from garage............................................ .......$free
Used car battery........................................... ..........$30
_______
$81
Sunken bunch of crap in river......priceless....
Try relaxing for awhile while rafting and not annoying everybody else. If you can't, by a cheap MP3 player and use headphones.
