Custom fiberglass sub enclosure in footwell
Would you be interested in making one of these to sell? I actually was thinking of using the enclosure that pioneer makes for that sub, but cannot locate it anywhere and the custom box is much nicer. I really am interested in getting one of these if you were willing to make one to sell.
I'm interested in one of these with a 10" shallow sub. I liked it ever since seeing it on Modifry's site long ago. And since the advent of shallow subs, you don't have to cut a hole in the floor like Modifry did. I haven't made one yet because I HATE working with fiberglass. John, I would buy one of your creations based on your experience and past products, if the price is right of course.
I will leave production to Darknight1999 or others, as to do this well, a mold would have to be made. I used my car as the mold and I don't want to take it all apart again.
A 10" shallow mount sub would work well here, you would only loose a bit more footwell space than I did (which was not much).
If I were to do it over, I would:
Use a 10" shallow mount sub
Extend the transmission side up (toward the passenger) so the front of the enclosure is flat.
Keep the mounting system I used - it is really solid.
Do not be afraid of fiberglass. I have since made a super trick fiberglass enclosure for another vehicle, and it came out great. Search these threads and follow the instructions there. WEAR AN ORGANIC FILTER MASK ($29.95 for a 3M brand at Home Depot) - you'll be glad you

very nice work! what about a custom box under or behind the seat?
darkknight1999 I sent you a pm.
I personally would prefer in car sub(s) because I really don't want to lose the space in the trunk. I have already found some amps that may fit under the seats (or at least behind that hump and partially under the seat). In my mind there should be less rattling in the car as well. Also if an in car sub isn't enough, one can always add another to the trunk to increase bass.
I would be down immediately! I would want this more than the tray top box! What is the most powerful sub you can fit in there? My Alpine F545 amp is pushing 500+wrms to the sub channel.
I realize I will have to turn it down, but its still nice to have the ability to BOOM! I remember there was some boutique brand you got ahold of like a year or two ago... They were like $400 a pop, but apparently produced AMAZING sound compared to the Pioneer Slim-sub.... I want to say it had a CF / kevlar cone... yellowish looking.
Oh, and I am calling
on you not losing ANY foot space down at the floor. If you look the pics with the mounting ring and the back of the box glassed, you will see where the carper used to turn up. It now turns up about 2" sooner. This is also evidenced by the fact that you had to cut the trim panel like you did. Had it not taken any foot space at the floor (had the carpet crease remained the same), and you can see where the sheet metal turns up. It now turns up a good 2" earlier. This can also be seen in the cut on the trim panel... it would only be more vertical, but would still hit the bottom of the panel at the same place. You removed about 1.5-2" from the bottom of the trim cut. Draw a line vertical from that mounting hole straight down, and you will see in the before/after pics how far back the "crease" in the carpet moved. Looks like good/quality work, though.
I think it could be designed to not take up any floor space, if you utilize the area over near the tranny tunnel more (squish the box a little more).

John
I'm working on this right now. I'm gonna grab my car this weekend and have a look/see. I'll see what I can come up with to keep the space lost to the box being installed to a minimum
I'm looking at subs right now for this. I'll get the different options based on quality and specs.
Those that have PM'd me have been responded to.
The sub your thinking about John is the Critical Mass shallow mount... And it is a truly amazing sub... the output is crazy. The problem is, is that these subs require a massive amount of power. For the box that can be built for this location and to keep it on the small side you'd need to power a 10" sub with 900 watts... yes you read that right... its peaks out at 1500watts. The other problem is the $875.00 price tag for the sub.
Not exactly in most peoples budgets.
But if you want it I'll get it for you.
