It really depends on the thickness of the wood used. If he were to use 3/4" plywood, the compression of the sub I don't think would be enough to cause any vibrations. Plywood is a bit more pourous than MDF, though...

yeah, it's fun messing with woods.
I like doing custom jobs like that myself.
I've tried both 3/4" plywoods and MDF boards and honestly,
I can't tell the difference in sound quality.
I'd be surprised if someone notices the difference.

It's plexi, I have moved on to a fiberglass box with 2 -10" subs in it, I can't figure out how to upgrade pics, but when I do, I'll post the new box.

Not to bad you just need to have the right bits for cutting it. Cutting it on a table saw you should use 80-100 tooth blades.
