The question is about speakers but here is the long story first.

Believe it or not someone at the Honda dealer blew out the four speakers in my car and I didn

Sorry to hear of this Chris . Are you sure that the speakers blew from being overpowered? You have a really nice amp that should deliver clean power even at very high listening levels. If you haven't already done so, inspect the speaker surrounds for deterioration. I had a set of speakers sound like they were blown when they had simply succumbed to heat degradation of the surrounds.

Since you may have to switch speaker brands take a look at Infinity Kappas. A set of 6.5" coaxials in front matched to their 4" coaxials behind the seats is installed in my car. I actually prefer the sound of the 6.5" coaxial to their triaxials since I find the latter to be too bright for my tastes. Also, if you haven't already done so, this might be an opportunity to upgrade to component speakers - they sound better than coaxials IMO, at a price.

Sorry to hear about your discovery . I am not going to answer your real question because I have not heard your A/D/Ss so I can't say. However, consider doing this small mod. Bury a switch somewhere in your car that is connected to the REM on the amplifier. When you drop it off somewhere just flick the switch and your stereo will not power up...no one plays with your stuff.

I have only looked at one speaker (rear only ~ a year old) and it is clearly damaged with a small separation on one edge, but none of them sound right. I guess I

First I've heard about A/D/S becoming limited in availability...

Did you use the local retailer search on www.adst.com?

Also, many higher end drivers can be rebuilt or have new voice coils installed. It might or might not actually be less expensive, though, assuming ADS will do it.

I'm running the 235's (or are they 236's?) with an ADS amp, not a fortune but a huge improvement over stock.

As far as equivalents, I've heard the Focal stuff is similar sounding, but likely much more expensive.

When I got my Focal Polykevlars, i also checked out the ADS. They were pretty good but I liked the sound of the Focals better - more natural sounding, IMO. Those ADS speakers were not cheap as well. I don't know of any four good speakers that can be had for less than $450. The Focal Polyglass might be the closest thing for you to try.

PS: Have you checked for a short? I can't help but think there's something wrong, all 4 speakers blown at the same time does not make much sense to me. A short in the speaker wires also sounds like blown speakers, I think. Also, I had this sub at one time with the surround all cracked and it still sounded good. So, spend some time and try to figure out if there something else wrong first, you might even save the $450 ;-)

I had a/d/s/ stuff in my old car. I loved it. You may try rich's car tunes in Boston, as that is where I got my stereo installed.

But there are a lot of other good speakers out there now, too.

It doesn't matter how much clean power the amp can deliver. At some point approaching max volume, the output signal from the head unit will begin to clip. Once that happens, the clipped signal is amplified, and voila, a distorted signal can drive and damage the speakers.

If you overdrive a speaker even with a perfectly clean signal, damage can happen. You can overheat and cook the voice coil or you push it outside of the magnet's field of control. When the voice coil comes back down it may not be centred any longer (because it is outside of the magnetic field) and could be damaged.
