put my amp in the space above the fuel tank? I want to slide it into where that fuzzy yellow insulation stuff is, but I'm concerned about having hot electronics sitting on top of a fuel tank.

Am I safe?

I'm normally a bit squeemish about such stuff, even though common sense says it's alright. Gas has a high ignition temp, so about the time your amp gets hot enough to ignite the gas, your seats will be on fire. The only other worry is sparks, but the electrical wires for the taillights pass by there, so that's no different.

YMMV...

I don't know how many miles I have had my amps there... but I did make it to and back from S2kdays with no problems, and I still have no problems. Soo... yes I think it is ok to place them there. And there are TWO Amps in that location. My only tip would be to place all wiring in a plastic loom and to secure all connections to the amp and ground.

Just my dos centavos

Dittos. I've got a Kenwood 50W x 4 stuffed in there. It actually is up against the sound insulation, and I've not had any problems yet, after 9 months and 24k miles in Atlanta. I considered putting a cooling fan in to circulate the air but it doesn't get that hot at my listening levels. Amps with minimal heat sink area may have different results.

Bear in mind the metal hump is not the actual fuel tank, so it's OK to put screws in it IF THEY ARE SHORT. Take the fuel sensor cover off and look inside to get a feel for how much space there is before drilling any holes.

Sounds like remote detonation ... The thin line between safe and hazardous.

I agree Takashi... but, maybe I should explain a little more about my setup... One amplifier I have is very small maybe 1"x5"x10".... this amp is placed as far back as possible and all the way to the left. There is a small empty space back there and the amp fits very securely in this space. The amp is very hard to get in and out as it is very snug and does not move around. I think this is the key point. If the amp is able to move around freely, it can cause a lot of problems. As for my second amplifier. this sits on top of the gas tank area. It is very snug in this space and I have a lot of problems getting it in the right place. Does it move... not at all. You have to be very cautious about anything you do when installing car stereo equipment. Screwing into the wrong place would be very dangerous, just placing equipment loosely in a car can be very dangerous. I guess the best advice about this is use your better judgement, and common sense. If you really don't feel comfortable about it. Don't do it. If you do, just take a moment and think about what could happen. [/end psychologist session]

Hi,

I'm currently installing a new sound system in my S2000.

RECEIVER - Sony M670 receiver
..perfect fit.. I purchased a module to allow left control panels to operate..

CD CHANGER - Sony 747X
..I was able to completely hide my Sony CD changer inside the jack&tool holder at the bottom of the trunk. Perfect fit!

COMPONENT SPEAKERS - Polk EX2560
..installed tweater at edge panels of windshield

AMP - Sony
I'm installing the amp behind the passenger seat.

However, I think the gas tank may be there.... it might not be too smart to drill a hole there.....

Can anyone tell me where the gas tank is located in the S2000?
And is it safe to drill holes behind the passenger seat?

Thanx!

BTW... checkout this site. I was able to buy my complete system under $1000

http://www.etronics.com

And only visited Crutchfield for reference purpose............

... and 'NO', I'm not an employee of etronics.com.
