To those of you who have an MP3 player in your car, which one do you have and do you like it or not?

I've been looking at local shops and at the list of them at
http://www.crutchfield.com/cgi-bin/S-e74yW...&c=&g=62700&a=0

Just trying to narrow down my choices

BTW...that list on Crutchfield keeps getting bigger, they just added 4 of those within the last couple of weeks.

thanks!

I have the new Kenwood MP8017 and I'm very happy with it. I got it because the Kenwood Z828 wasn't out yet and I was trying to keep my expenses down. But now my gf is bugging me about getting her an MP3 head unit now so I might give her mine and get either the new Clarion or Kenwood Z828. haha.

I saw a demo of the Sony and I was just not impressed by the 5 year old style design. It played and sounded fine though. If you like the design, I'm sure it's a fine head unit.

There is also a new JVC MP3 head unit coming out that looks neat, but I still prefer the Clarion and Z828.

I just ordered the JVC (its on back order)... Looks tottally bad ass... The thing is all aluminum, will look nice with my aluminum shift knob .

Funny thing is I'm going to charlottesville, va (HQ of Crutchfield)next friday to visit my folks... Yeah, I grew up in that preppy college town . I told the sales rep that odds are I would be crossing paths with my head unit, may even see the fedex plane fly by!

I ordered it purly on specs, so lets hope the specs don't lie. 102db s/n ratio is just insane...

The only thing that has me a little concerned is Crustchfield said I would have to make my own "mounting face" because the stock won't fit.... Anyone else have any experince with this?

I'll keep you all updated...

Gold,

Keep an eye on my webpage for details about a faceplate...just installed a Sony CDX-M750 and there is a small gap when the final faceplate is attached (pics should be up in the next week). 102 dB S/N may not mean as much when you're playing MP3s, though...don't get me wrong, it will still sound sweet as all get out, but don't be fooled simply by the specs.

I have a Kenwood Z919. It's a very nice head unit overall. Has all the makings of a top of the line cd-player unit (96 except that it's only got 1.5 volt pre-outs. As a cd-player it does great, but the mp3 capabilities leave a little something to be desired. It's a little slow (although not so bad if you keep your directory tree simple). Also, it requires you to write CD's in ISO9660 format instead of Joliet. That's a pain in the ass. And it's pretty finicky about the cd's you put in not having any scratches at all.

Anyway, I bought it when this and the Aiwa units were the only two available and I got a good deal on it, so I made the right choice for the time. But eventually, I'm going to want something with stronger pre-outs and better abilities with mp3's.

Wait for the Alpine CDA-7878... I think this one is going to be good too. It is satellite radio ready. Go check your local Alpine dealership and ask for their 2001 catalog.

Later,

Where's your gap?

I installed the 750 months ago and didn't have any issues.

Aus,

There's about an 1/8" inch gap around the faceplate you snap on...you can only really notice it if you're level with the deck, so it's a low priority item for me right now.

Is there such a thing as an MP-3 player that can be attached instead of the 6 disk CD player, keeping the original system and all of its functionality?
