Default Dashboard stereo controls...

I have just got my hands on a jap spec s2k, (I'm in the UK) I want to change the ICE starting with the stereo. Can anyone recommend a decent head unit (preferably tape deck with cd changer functionality), that will interface with the dash stereo controls. If so, how can this be done - i.e. do I need to get some sort of interface module etc.???? (what/which ones??)

Thanks in advance,

SS.

Well you are quite lucky here in that you are in the UK.

Alpine do a hard wired dash interface control (model number KCE-865B) and they are thankfully back in stock.

Pioneer also do a dash control interface for the S2000 but it uses an infra-red transmitter eye that needs to be placed in view of the headunit.

Most other headunits that have IR remote compatability can be made to work with the dash controls via the PAC SWI-X interface that is available from lucid (board sponsor - www.lucidautomotive.com) who also sells many other fine audio components tailored to the S2000.

If you stop by the UK Forum I'm sure you will be able to find many threads on the subject of UK recommendations.

Any reason why the Alpine interface wouldn't work in the states?

Very few aftermarket heads have controls ready to use with the stock S2k controls, but there are a couple, such as the aforementioned ones. If you want to pick up the SWI-X locally and do the work yourself, I'm sure most larger stereo shops or businesses (like the UK equivalent of Best Buy, Circuit City, etc.) will have them for a reasonable price, say around

How do you install the KCE-865B???
Is it plug and play? If so where about is the factory Dash controller plug?? Is in the dash or in the radio compartment??

Tifosi...

Any idea if the Pioneer dash control module will work on US headunits? How does it connect to the headunit?

If it works, I'd buy a Pioneer in a heartbeat.

Sorry for my ignorance. I wasn't very clear from what I read. Is it true that some of the aftermarket HU can be connected to the S2k audio controls on the left side (for the left sided steering wheel one)?

Thanks.
