Dci Installed?
I just installed mine last night. I haven't yet gotten it out on the road to test the speed-controlled volume, but so far everything works. I ended up tucking my DCI controller behind the passenger access panel since the wires weren't long enough to place it anywhere else.
Regarding the passenger access panel, it isn't obvious that the speed-controlled volume lead connects to a module that is in a different location from the HU. Once I found that out I was set. BTW, this was the "scariest" part of the install. You have to make a knotted wire tap to the existing wire. I simply took a butcher's knife and scrapped off the wire insulator. Then I wrapped the new wire around the exposed area. It would be best to solder this joint, but I don't have an iron at home and it isn't the easiest area of the car to work in. Once it was connected I wrapped it up with black electrical tape.
Beyond that Modifry's instructions were quite helpful.
Cheers

You don't have to solder this thing in, as there is no audio passing through it, just power. I used Radio Shack wire taps, and they worked great.

I just installed mine today. I'd say the instructions leave a lot to be desired, but in the end it's not too hard. I'm fairly remedial, but I did a 3 amp, 4 speaker, HU, DCI and a remote power switch instal, and so far nothing's blown up. If my car starts tomorow morning I will consider it a success. In my old age, I have found out that patients is the secret.
As to the speed sensitive volume connection...
There is no need to be afraid (although I would be nervous working with a butcher knife in such a tight area
) The wire you connect to only controls the speedo override for the top control module. In fact AFTER I had installed mine, I ended up cutting the wire to the module anyway to defeat the speedo override so I could raise/lower the top while moving.

I brought mine in to get installed on Friday but it didn't work. After about 2 hours of working at it the tech got out an ammeter and was only getting 10-12ma whether he was hitting buttons or not. The mute was working, but nothing else. It's a professional place that I brought mine too, same place that did my install so I'm hoping it's just a bad DCI. My head unit is an Eclipse 8454 and was working with the shitty DCI I got from Crutchfield, so again I don't think compatibility was the problem. Anybody else have this sort of issue that a new DCI fixed?
