that's good info. That should be in the FAQ's if accurate.

Unfortunately, I do drive with the seat all the way back, and the passenger seat is in a similar position. I think I can find a couple of amps to do what I want that are small enough and run cool enough to not cause problems for my install.

It's going to be a lot of fun trying to shoehorn all this stuff in!

SCoach- If you go with a set of these Phoenix Gold 600Ti's I have developed a special rack that will fit them. I just shipped Willie Gee one of the racks and he is using a set of these amps. The special rack has a usable mounting space of 16" X 20". Let me know if I can help you out.

LATEOTT, that are very good infos.
I think there are more space under driver seat than passenger seat. Also, there are several Memphis amps that are small enough to fit under both seats.
I had Memphis 16-MC2004 50Wrms x 4 at 4Ohms under my drive seat, and the seat can still be adjusted several inches.

For the sake of discussion, I am thinking of simply installing MMATS amps. They are small, run cool, and have pretty good sound quality. Not to mention I have a local shop that carries the brand. The beauty is that they all use essentially the same case design.

All of their amps are 2.25" high (which should let it fit under the seat, above the fuel tank, or in other height restricted areas. They are all 9.5" wide, and the only variable then is the length, with the shortest being 8", and the longest being 18".

For a couple of examples, the D850.1 gives 650 watts bridged into a 1 ohm load and is only 8" long. Retail is $489.

The SMT4090 gives 90x4 watts into 4 ohms and is 2 ohm stable, and is 10" long. It retails at $649.

The DHC3000.1 is 1 ohm stable, give 500w into one channel at 4 ohms, and 2200w into 1 ohm. It's 15" long. Unfortunately it retails at $1349!

I've had an opporunity to listen to a few MMATS amps. They won't be comfused with Brax but they do sound quite nice, and offer a lot of power in a small, cool-running package.

You guys have been tremendously helpful though. I was wondering what kind of space restraints I was working with, and you have answered those questions. Hopefully in July/August, I'll have some of this stuff installed and I'll take pictures.

sorry i'm coming in late on this one, but my system is actually 100% designed around this question...

first though - the Blaupunkt PA4100 and Blaupunkt PA2100 -- avoid them like the plague. they have a long standing history of major reliability problems. there have been many many reports on here of people who have had loads of issues.

now, on to how my system is setup and why:
check out this thread for pics:
https://www.s2ki.com/forums/showthread.php?...threadid=129084

i wanted to be able to mount both of my amps in the trunk, have a sub, and keep the use of my spare. (keep the spare AND the stowability of the flat.)

the area where the spare is stowed is just over 5" tall. so i designed an amp rack that was just under 5" tall total. the amp rack sits on top of the tools holder.

i've left enough slack in the wiring, so that if i DO have to use the spare - i can pull the spare tire out and move the entire rack into where the spare normally sits.
then, i can pull the tools out, do my dirty work, and drop the flat tire into the trunk stowing the tool holder in the center of the tire.

convienent? no. but i also do a good bit of driving, and having the spare is piece of mind that i want right now...
regarding luggage -- well, in any case, you'll have to store it somewhere if you ever get a flat - my plan is to use the passenger seat or the rear convertible top deck if necessary. the spare is clearly not intended to be driven on for very long, so it's only a stop gap anyway.

given the choice, i'll probably flatbed the car anytime i get a flat... but sometimes a flatbed is a long ways or long time away and a spare is enough to get you out of a pinch.

eventually, my desire for more oomph in my bass may override the need for the spare. we'll see.

i hope this makes sense... the pics will probably help.
