Question DEI 508D Prox Help

Hey guys, well iv had my alarm for awhile now, and I cannot seem to figure out for the life of me how to adjust it correctly. I sat in my garage for over an hour testing settings out and it seemed to me completely random. Anyway does anyone know how to set this? guy that installed it didn't have a clue and I'm tired of it going off every time my garage door opens...do i have any hope?

I hear there is a new one called the DEI 509 something not sure but should my old one be replaced? Also if theres no way to adjust it to the point where it will not go off every time my garage door opens or closes 5 feet above the actual car can i make some sort of switch or something??? Please help me out!! thanks guys

where in the car is the prox. sensor mounted, and have you adjusted the sensitivity screw from most sensitive to least sensitive to see which setting works best for you?

EDIT: I have mine mounted in the deep section of the secret compartment... it's visible if you look down into it with the compartment door open but it takes up little space and is not surrounded by metal that could make the sensor less sensitive. I find it easy to adjust with the adjustment screw with the sensor in this location.

you probably need to figure out what sensor is setting the alarm off (like a vibration sensor) and adjust its sensitivity. I imagine it goes off when someone with a loud exhaust drives by or someone is bassing it when they drive by.

its located under the cup holder. there are 2 different adjustments and 1 factory adjustment. none in which i know to turn left or right to lower sensitivity and i dont even know what the 2 different ones are for.

Im pretty positive its the proximity only because it always beeps at me when i walk by and always sets off full alarm when the garage is opening or closing

Is there anything in the cupholder? Change, etc....

This is why I stayed away from the prox.

http://www.nimatoad.com/z4/alarm_sensor_install.html

Towards the bottom (# 12.) he talks about how to adjust it. Let us know how you make out, I am thinking about installing one of these myself.

Good luck

okay, this is exactly what i have been looking for once I can get some time I am going to re adjust everything. Thanks!

"Think of the proximity sensor as defining two 'bubbles', one within the other. The outer bubble is the first stage trigger, and the inner bubble is the second stage. Turning the left adjustment screw of the sensor expands and contracts both bubbles. Turning the right-hand adjustment screw changes the inner bubble only."

If you are just trying to adjust the sensitivity of it, go to the left of the 2 holes on the lower right of the unit, and adjust that for the warn sensitivity.

Once you have the warn level where you want it, then adjust the setting on the right for the trigger level. You are looking for the warn level to be about 2-3 feet outside the windows and the trigger to be about 6 inches inside the windows.

Remember, sensitivity goes down when you replace the covering pieces.
