DEI 509U Proximity Sensor /Factory Alarm
I have an 05 with the factory alarm (with the hood switch) I park with the top up 100% of the time but want the extra protection of a prox sensor (there's a new thread today in S2000 Talk about another seat rip off--the car had the factory alarm --this time they cut thru the top and unlatched it and disabled the alarm without opening the doors and took the seats.
After reading past posts (with a big thank you to Fmah), I have the info needed to hook up a prox sensor to the factory alarm using a diode and connecting into the hood switch wiring.
I was looking at using a DEI 508D---when I went to buy one, I noticed a DEI 509U available which appears to be two ultrasound transmitters/receivers with a recommended mounting location on each of the A pillars. It looks like there would be much less "adjustments" needed using this vs a traditional two stage prox sensor-thus possibly fewer false alarms.
Anyone familiar or used a 509U? Is this a good alternative?
any thoughts would be welcome!!
thanks!

here's a link to a picture of it (you can find it for about $35 at other stores but this is the best pix I could find)

I went ahead and ordered the 509U
Only question I have now is where to get the positive feed to power it when the ignition is off (I'd like to take it off somewhere on the factory alarm circuit so it's only on when the alarm is on---any help on this from anyone??? thanks!!)
I'll post my experience with it after I get it installed if folks are interested

I believe the 509 works well for the inside of the car -- i.e. you want the alarm to go off when someone reaches his hand into the car. The 508 is great for the outside -- i.e. you want the car to chirp if someone walks really close to it, or puts his hand on the roof and ready to cut it. The 508 senses any change in the radar "field" (i.e it emits some sort of frequency and monitors how it comes back?) whereas the 509 listens for air movements, analygous to glass sensor to a certain degree.
I could be completely wrong though.

The 509U "probably" will not work very well top down or even with the windows down. It senses air disturbance which would always be happening in either of the above conditions.
