Default Disabling Kenwood mask?

Anyone know how to do this? I want one of the new '02 Kenwood decks, but the ones I want (rotary knob) all have the motorized mask and everyone says that will hit the cover.

thanks!

I went ahead and tried it out since it had arrived at the store......

I have one of the KDC-X759 models installed now (along with my music keg!) and it does flip and close with the rotary knob (it looks like every model with a rotary knob has the security mask feature). Kenwood tech support says they don't have any way to turn that feature off, no secret button combination, etc. That just seems like bad design to me. However, it doesn't clear the cover and honestly it hits so hard that I don't think I want to risk this breaking over time. So I'm gonna get another model without mask, probably a 659 or 559 when those are released (couple of weeks). But there is going to be a wait because........all the 759 and 859s Tweeter tried sent a signal to cut off the amp when you eject a CD. Sounds like Kenwood just started getting complaints on this and they are sending out new units.

Yeah, it looks like the 659 and 559 have 4.5v, anything below that doesn't.

Silverbullet... Where do you plan on mounting the music keg????

Also thanks for the advice on the dmask... I'm gonna go with the KDC-X659 & the music keg... but since I don't have the car yet I was just curious of where to mount the keg.
I guess the obvious place is in the trunk... but I've seen some people mounting cdchangers in the secret compartment...

The keg is too big for the secret spot unless you plan to cut it. And since I didn't want to hide it in the spare tire or next to it, I had it and my JL 300/4 amp mounted vertically at the back of the trunk. I lose about 2.5inches, but that's ok I plan to take some pics this weekend to post and as I'm getting requests.

I also did an awesome speaker install. Boston Pro 6.5's in the door, honda bracket modified to handle the speakers and the tweeters mounted via the axis mount option. Sounds just as good as another install I heard with the same speakers in the 2002 tweeter mounts and with the same amp. A pillar is better, but I wanted stealth.

BTW...there is zero diff between the 559 and 659, just MP3. I wouldn't waste the $50 if you are getting the keg.

I'm not sure if you saw me mention this in another post but...Tweeter is going to try and drop my 759 deck back a little bit and see if we can make the flip work. If we mod the cover and cut/grind some stuff off I can gain some depth there too. Looks like I only need 0.6 inches.

The keg is bad ass. Pretty pricey at $900 though. 10 Gigs is a LOT of black metal

yeah, but to be able to ship around 10-30 gb of music would be grand. (to get the 20 or 30 mb size, order extra drives from phatnoise.com.) the thing that bums me out is it looks like the only kenwood head unit (so I can control a keg) that also supports WMA CDs is the $750 959.

anybody here know of a system that supports WMA in the head unit + the keg (or phatnoise's original, but I don't think they're reselling anymore.)
