Display screen integrated into radio door
Has anyone ever mounted a thin LCD display into the S2000 radio door? The door seems thick enough for a thin display. Seems easier than cutting into the dash. I might be tempted to try this if it's been done successfully.
Probably could flush a 3" in the door. It's not flat though so there'd be some work involved.
Only problems I see are size and direct light.
I have an AVX1 installed in the stock location, it has a 3" screen built in. I find many days where I have to drive with the radio door shut because the sun is shining straight on the screen (this can shorten the life of the monitor). If you have a screen in the radio door the only protection you'd have is to leave the door open.
As for size, I've put a few video DVD's into my player and you are mostly listening to them. It's cool to look down and see the video (I guess), but you can only see it well with the screen tilted out. To match this with a radio door mount you'd have to tilt the bezel as you were molding it in. Not bad, but it wouldn't sit flat.
If you install it flat it's not going to sit at the right angle (try looking at an LCD monitor from a sharp angle, things tend to wash out) but if you install it at a sharp enough angle the radio door is going to rest on it whenever it's open.
You might be able to get away with a narrow, but wide, LCD ascii screen (text only) though I'm not sure what you'd use as a source.

I am finishing up a project like this right now. What I did was take a radio bezel and remove the door completely. I then mounted a 7" touchscreen at a slight angle in it;s place and made a fiberglass mold around it. The screen is a Lilliput touchscreen that has been modified by mp3car.com They call it a "transflective" screen. Basicly, it is fully viewable in direct sunlight! The screen will be hooked up to my carputer, which will handle all audio (AM-FM-XM-MP3-CD), GPS, net and anything else a computer can do for you. Putting the screen in this location requires removing the head unit though, which isn't an issue for me since all my sound comes straight out of the CPU to the amps.
I will have pics and a post up soon, but I want to get some more work done on it before I post. I started painting the bezel today, so it won't be long.
