are there any alternatives out there to the radio cover door? possibly some decent looking trim piece that would integrate the HU into the dash and eliminate the door all together?

 

You could get rid of the door with very little trouble. It will require you to mold onto the stock piece to make it look good but it would look nice.

 

yeah i was hoping that perhaps someone out there had already done this and offered the part(s) for doing it. i don't have a lot of free time anymore to try and fabricate something

i just hate it because i never close the door anyway and it looks a bit tacky with it hanging open all the time.

Just realize that the door is partially there to keep dust out/off of the radio while driving with top down.
