Default do alpine headunits allow me to control my songs..

through my ipod or can i only use the headunit?
what about the dci?
can i manage my song playback through the dci?

basically, I'm on the verge of purchasing an CDA-105 or a ida-X305s

but ideally I want to control my ipod songs through my ipod itself or the dci
i dont want to use the headunit as music management...i want to have the radio cover up...so i can shift comfortably without any distraction and also i like the crisp look of the radio door being closed.

anyone have a setup like this?
i dont want to run an aux cable through the front either since i want the radio door closed...but running it through the back would sound ideal.

You can only manage songs using the HU.

yes you can - you simply plug this into the cd changer port of your head unit (double check that this cable is compatible with your head unit as they have two different ones and this one worked with both my 9884 and my 9835)

and then you'll need this

then select the aux output on your head unit, plug the head phone jack into your ipod and you're all set

now that's what I was looking for finally a solution to my problem!!! now to figure out how I am going to wire this headunit up to my DCI and preserve all the button layout since I already have a SONY HEADUNIT that is really outdate but all the button layout is preserved.. ahhh swapping the radio on an s2k is such a hassle.

really other than the tight space - the s2k radio is one of the easiest ones to swap - pull the radio door and it's four screws

don't think you can use a sony dci with an apine head unit nor can you use it to control your ipod

you'd need either a modfry dci or a pac unit to use the side controls

no you will not - the dci will not work

you will only be able to control the songs via the device itself be it an iphone, itouch, mp3 player, or Driod anything with a headphone jack

If you use the USB/Alpine iPod connector between the iPod and the HU, you can use the HU or DCI to control the iPhone. However, you cannot use the iPhone for control while connected in this way.

If you use the aux input as described, you can use the iPhone to control the songs, but not the HU or DCI.

It's one or the other I'm afraid.

This is from the 305S manual http://www.alpine-electronics.co.uk/filead...DA-X305S_EN.pdf

When an iPod/iPhone is connected to the iDA-X305S by using the proper cable, the controls on the iPod/iPhone are not functional.
• Internet or telephone functions, etc., of the iPhone or iPod touch are not controllable from the unit, but these functions can be controlled
using the iPhone or iPod touch itself.
• If you connect an iPhone to the iDA-X305S, it can be used as an iPod. If you use iPhone as a hands-free phone, you need the optional
BLUETOOTH INTERFACE (KCE-400BT).
• This unit does not support the iPod FULL SPEED connection. Therefore, even if you connect an iPod/iPhone using the FULL SPEED connection cable (KCE-433iV) on the BLUETOOTH INTERFACE (KCE-400BT), you cannot operate the iPod/iPhone.
• This unit does not support video playback from iPod/iPhone.
