Default Do the OEM "component" speakers have a crossover?

Just wondering how they are wired.

Is there a crossover in the door someplace or is there a high pass or low pass filter in the circuitry someplace? I check the FAQ and I didn't see this mentioned.

Nope...they have a bass blocker somewhere on the line to the tweeter. THis filters out the low pass from the tweeters. If you are going to replace them, you will need to locate this blocker and remove it, if it is before where you are going to place the x-over. SHould look like a thick portion of wire.

So if you wire the new speakers into the midrange (hard to call that a woofer) wiring connector and don't use the tweeter connection then everything should be a-ok?

Thanks,
Dennis

yes it does have a crossover, but only by the most rudimentary definition.

and yes, if you connect to the midrange and avoid the tweeter wiring, you're good to go. (i'm guessing you're using an aftermarket crossover?

Isn't the blocker on the tweeter? So with an external xover, the blocker won't even "see" anything to block, so it won't be doing anything......

Correct. I was just trying to confirm that the OEM wiring had nothing between the in dash and the midranges in the door. I used a speaker wiring adapter to connect to the midrange OEM connector and wire in the xover for the Polk db6500 pair of components I installed. I just taped up the now empty tweeter connector.

Thanks,

Dennis

the bass blocker is on the tweeter. If you remove the tweeter the bass blocker is gone.

I just used extra wiring for my tweeter anyway.

I am not sure that is true on an 05 - mine didn't seem to have anything on the tweeter nor in the pig-tail to the tweeter connector. I asked because I ASSUMED it was elsewhere in the door.....

Since I mounted the xover in the door "pocket" (whatever that thing is) it was easier to run my own wires to the tweeters than to try to re-use the OEM wiring.

new wires are better anyways, because stock wires are like 22G wires...TINY!
