I recently installed a D3 into my friend's RSX, and I was very impressed with the system. Nice display, fast, fits like OEM, easy to use (great GUI), bluetooth/phone works very well, love the Navi with no DVD option, great unit, and for the money, I highly recommend it. Not sure if its still going on, but crutchfield throws in a free rearview camera if you buy one. Its a very nice unit, I wouldnt hesitate to recommend it. I LOVE eclipse units, extremely high quality, but dollar for dollar, I cant recommend it over the Pioneer.
Cool

Do you recall whether it is a simple pin in the back that allows the navigation to work while driving? I loved my old D1. It beat the crap out of BMW's and Porsche's navigation systems. I'm not looking to watch movies in the car, so not having a DVD isn't a big deal.

Yup, all we had to do was relocate one pin.

My Alpine on the other hand, was a nightmare.

Any reason why you went with the Kenwood over something else?
I was very close to go with the Pioneer, but decided to go with the Kenwood.

Here are some things that I can think of that pulled me towards it, but probably not the full list.

I really liked the fact that the GPS was Garmin based and was all stored on a SD card vs. a DVD.

Ability to use any USB storage device with music (even heard being able to add a USB Hub for more than one USB device at one time).

It also allows adding relays for future use to be able to power on/off other gadgets with the head unit (i.e. remote hatch release or custom lighting).

Once I get this installed, I will have a better understanding and likely remember the other things too.

Interesting. If I were heavier into portable audio (aside from simple MP3's) I think I would look at the Kenwood harder. For my simple wants, I think the Pioneer should do the trick.

I guess the next thing to talk about it how to protect the stuff once it is in the Landcruiser? Friggin' Toyotas are easy to break into.

hey bud,

Yes I actually have (x2) of the Eclipse AVN5495 decks in my garage - both units have been barely used, etc. We removed it from a client's 997 P-car and he ended up with a Pioneer Z1.

If you askin my opinion, I think the Eclipse units are FAR better in terms of exclusivity and sound quality. Their NAVI is ok but the Pioneer NAVI is more popular among our friends. However the AVN5495 does NOT have bluetooth and a horrible Ipod interface.

The new Eclipes AVN6610 has both bluetooth and good ipod interface but no harddrive.

If you have any questions PM me since I know these decks inside and out. I personally love the harddrive since it rips music and I don't need to clutter up my s2k with CD's.

btw I have a Rio 05 s2000 with the AVN5495 deck

sold my spa s2k a while back and just got rid of my 05 Silverstone so back to only one s2000 for now...hehe

Thanks for the offer Rick. You've always been very helpful - even when I had my M3

I'm not looking to get super fancy in the Landcruiser. It will be a FZJ80 - not the 100 version which is the current luxurious Land Crusher. I think I'll just stick with something I already know, and is pretty inexpensive - the Pioneer unit.

I would like to see how you set your S2000 up. I think I may pick another S up this winter, and will be going through this whole setup question again.

One thing I would mention about the Kenwood is that it doesn't utilize a VSS wire. This is useful when you have no GPS reception (boonies/tunnels/etc). It can still predict where you're going w/o GPS signal. I just installed one of these in my friend's Z so that's how I know. I've went through the original AVIC-N1, kenwood Navi (older style..not garmin), and i'm currently on my 3rd Eclipse Navi and will not go BACK. AVN6610 is the one I'm currently up to. =) Good luck!

If you have any tips on the install (which I am doing tonight), would you mind sending me a PM (don't want to hi-jack this thread)?
Hi-Jack away

I have my answer. It would be cool to keep the kind of information you two are going to discuss in public view.
