Default Drivers Side door Grommets?!?!?!?!

I was able to get the grommets off and put my speaker wire through, but I can't get the grommets through the door opening to go back into the car. Is there some kind of trick to get the grommet through the hole? This is beyond annoying!

To answer my question, after cutting your hands up and getting mad, go take a break.

Then put a lot of soap on the grommet and position opposite of the way it would not go through the door for the first hour and pull and push. Sigh some relief and realize there is one more door to go. =(

I don't think most people remove the door grommet - I personally attached
the end of my speaker wire to a piece of solid copper wire pulled from a
piece of romex and threaded it through the grommet in place. I also
used a little cable lube to pull it through.
Here's an old thread.

i had an easy time of it!

i used a snake and wire lube, and i got 2 x 12 gauge wires through. i did NOT pull the grommets.

i wrote about it in a thread i made for my install: https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.ph...c=755471&st=25.
i still have a lot of work i haven't finished, but with how i did it, that part wasn't bad at all. you just have to get the right tools.

I have no clue how you guys are untaping the end of the grommet inside of the car, without removing the grommets.

I got pissed at mine when I was pulling my wire through, using wire lube and a snake, and ended up ripping the grommet out in the footwell. Still need to fix that, waiting for it to warm up though...

careful use of a box cutter. i pushed the snake in until i could feel it through the electrical tape, then slit right where the head of the snake was and pushed it the rest of the way through.

Just wait, try it on the brand new hondas and dodges, they no longer just have a whole in the door and the wall. There are two plugs in there so in order to do a clean install you have to drill out a few EMPTY spots on thos plugs to pass wires through, pain in the ass

I ended up also pulling my firewall drivers side grommet out on accident. I decided to try a coat hanger and soap through the passenger side door grommet and that was so much easier than pulling the grommets out. I didn't untape or anything. Just poked from inside the door into the grommet and gently kept wiggling the hanger until it went all the way through.
