Drivers side window
I know there has been many failures of the drivers side window not fully retracting when engaging the convertible top lowering switch. I will be removing the door panels to upgrade door speakers and was wondering since the door panels will be off..is there any obvious things to look for on the window regulator that is faulty? The window only retracts part way when operating the top down switch..

when you pull off the door panels, you'll discover that the interior of
the door is still covered by a plastic moisture barrier, so it won't quite
be like just looking straight at the window regulator, though that can be
removed. In any event, I believe the auto-down failure is a problem with
the motor itself, and the ultimate fix is replacement - I doubt you will see
anything visibly wrong from the outside. Some people have had luck
"resetting" the regulator, see

The problem is indeed with the motor. It sends a signal to the main window switch (in the driver's door) that tells it that the motor is still turning. When the signal gets weak (this is the failure mode) then the main switch thinks the motor has reached the end of travel and it shuts the motor off.
"Back in the day" people reported all kinds of "reset methods" where you pulled this fuse or another or cycled this switch on and off and there were lots of "it works, it works!" calims about how the reset procedure fixed it. Of course there were just as many claims of "it works, it works!" from owners who never did the magical reset procedures. And nearly all the "fixed" motors eventually failed again.
Face it, it's an intermittent failure of the motor assembly. It might screw up for 2 weeks straight then work for 4 months (like mine) or it might fail permanently, or it might work off and on forever. Either shell out the dough for a new motor assembly or buy a Auto-Loc window module for $40 (or less) and get auto-up and auto-down. Buy 2 and do the passenger window while you're at it.
