Dynamat Smell (Updated with general damping info))
I'm in the middle of my new install and I have the doors dynamated and most of the interior taken out. Unfortunately when I leave the car parked with the top up it smells like asphalt right when I open it. Does this go away? If not, no sounds quality increase is worth that smell and I'll be removing it. Isopropyl ought to lift it off.
I dynamatted my old eclipse and had to roll with the windows down to handle the smell at first. After awhile, it went away. Then summer hit and the heat brought the smell back. I heard the newwer stuff doesn't smell too bad but I will never use the stuff again.

try using RAAMat.
I have some interesting information about sound damping materials. I called Elemental Designs this morning about the smell from their eDead v1 material. (I called it Dynamat before because I couldn't remember the name of the company.) I thought that the reason that Dynamat was so expensive was because everything is way overpriced in car audio stores because some people just don't know better. However, the price is directly related to the rubber content in the material. eDeadv1 is a rubberized asphalt material with less rubber than the dynamat; hence the cost difference. So it looks like I wasted $30, live and learn I suppose. I'm going to try some tar/bug remover to get the eDead off.
Cost difference should still be VERY minimal (if you want to compare cost of manufacturing, not selling of brand names). They throw some rubber content into the asphalt you drive on, mostly post-consumer stuff. Even new rubber is dirt cheap.
