Yeah... now I'll tell you how to do it an easy way Get a brick of childerns clay and flatten it out to 1/2"x4"x4" square.. just gently press it up under there so you know exactly what size to cut the Dynamat squares into... then starting in the front and just make your way back. Press the clay, pull it off, cut the Dynamat to the same size shape onthe clay, press Dynamat onto tray
How that...
This is such a clever idea! I'm planning to dynamat the spare tire area but I couldn't figure out how to cut the dynamat pieces into the correct shapes. I think this technique will solve my problem.
I'm not sure if it will rattle against the tray itself(it shouldn't but)... its very sticky once you get that stuff on the tray you may have a hard time changing it.
It only takes about an hour or so... I did it with my brother, the extra set of hands helps a lot though.
I was just wondering if it would have enough area to grip and not fall off, but your right its very sticky. The tray is not that much from honda, so if I mess it up i can get another one, problem is removing it and installing the new one. I dont think it will rattle against the tray as its quite a bit rigid.
I started doing the cutting squares technique, but that was just taking way too long, so i just cut long strips and placed them from side to side of the car. Very easy, took about 15 minutes.
Now I think it has reduced the bass coming into the cabin, but it does not matter as now I dont have any rattle, and all I did was crank up the bass a notch or two.
Here some pics.
Tray ready to go, removed the factory sound deadning material, just pull it right off.
With Dynamat
Sorry about the quality of the pics, lent my brother the camera and he put his finger on the lens and I did not notice until uploading the pictures.
I slapped three coats of quietcoat onto the tray overnight. I removed the tray having damaged one of the retaining clips (in the darkness I assumed it was a simple pull out plug, whereas seven of them are the ones with the push-in centre bits) to make the coating job easier. ON the way into work this morning I was contemplating whether to use a bit of dynamat on there as well - I'm paranoid that the source of the headasche-inducing resonance is the tray (I dynomatted the trunk and the spare tyre well six months ago - see ICE photos in sig). I think I'll place dynamat squares across the centre of the tray and not bother with the much smaller squares at the edges of the tray. Then its up with the seats and carpet and a few coats under there - the effort I go to having relieid on some owners' advice that the T-1R does not resonate
After my dynamat project on my tray, now I am getting vibrations from the tray somewhere else, i think this time around its the tray vibrating against the area where it meets the plastic of the roll hoops. Time for more diagnosis.
