Default e8A Discontinued, so now what?

I'm thinking (really not sure).

I was running 2 x JL 8W0-4's in a WLaurent enclosure but as my amp isn't 2 ohms stable I had problems. So I've sold one of them, which means instead of but 100W into each, my single sub is getting 200W.

Now I'm fairly happy with the single 8W0 but I know I'm putting too much power into it so I'm concerned about blowing it.

So my Alpine MRV-F450 is pushing 200W onto the sub channel. JL Recommend 100-125W, 200W seems to at the top of the Maximum the speaker is designed for.

I had been thinking of replacing the JL with something that would be better able to handle the power and perhaps provide a little more punch. I noe that one of the favorites in the past it the elemental designs e8A, but checking the website its been discontinued.

So do i just stop worrying? Or should I think about replacing the sub, if so recommendations please, remembering its going in a WLaurrent sub enclosure.

Just to name a few....

Alpine Type R....great sub, fast recoil, sounds good, made well....

Infinity Perfect....^

Alphasonik....look great on paper....I ordered one, wait for my review...

For 200W, I would def. consider the Alpine, its inexpensive, much better than lower line JL subs, and is a very well made piece.

the e8a wouldn't have worked for you anyway... it was a 4 ohm DVC sub, so you'd have had to wire it up for a 2 ohm total load anyway...

and i don't think it's discontinued, as much as they are producing a v2.

I don't think Infinity makes a Perfect in an 8" size ?? The smallest I've seen is 10". Am I wrong?

For that matter, I haven't seen an AlpineType R in an 8" either.

Jocko2 is right, Alpine don't appear to list any 8" subs on their site, Neither do Infinity.

JL do the 8W0 which I already have, and the 8W3 which I could get in a 2 ohm DVC wired in series for a 4 ohm load. But even the 8W3 is near the limits of it specs when driven with 200W. And I don't know how much better this would be compared to my current sub.

In the UK there appears to be a fairly limited range of 8" subs, and most of the car audio centres only seem to have JL's or Phoenix Gold Tantrum TA8's so its hard to be able to go out and listen to a range of decent 8" subs.

My info lists the JL 8w7 which should swallow your 200w without blinking. Focal makes an 8" that would work, Earthquake makes an 8" with good power handling, so does Diamnond Audio which a lot of people here seem to like. Audiobahn makes a couple of 8s with good power handling. ARC audio has a couple of 8" subs that would work (either a dual 4 ohm or dual 2 ohm config).

You have some options, the question is how deep are your pockets...

Coach,

the 8W7 couldn't fit in Williams box due to depth issues...

regarding the other options -- i'm not familiar enough w/ any of them really... (haven't even read spec sheets)

Yes, I thought of the WLaurent box issue after posting. I've looked at the basic specs for most of the others but not T/S params to see what kind of enclosure they'd need.

I am going to be making the same decisions myself shortly so this is good legwork for me.
