Eclipse 3200 in my 02'
I've always like the eclipse head unit's and can get a 3200 at a good price but I have concerns with fitment. The 3200 has a motorized face and almost slides downward instead of outward to insert a cd.
I did searching on here and a member had installed one in his 06' s2k and had to trim the backside of the door that covers the radio for it to fit properly. I was looking at my car and it looks as if the radio will hit part of the trim under the radio. I'm not sure if the 02 and 06 s2k's are designed differently in that area of the car or not...
Basically what I'm looking for is any information if anyone has any on installing this unit. Has anyone done it?
I worked/ am working for Circuit City and I instal all of these things for a living (for the time being until we close) so as far as installing it, I'm fine, I just need to know what trimming I'll need to do and if anyone has pictures to show me what the outcome is. I'd rather not cut alot of things up, but we'll see.... I may just have to consider another radio...
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys/ gals

Sorry I cant help with install, and not to hijack, but I have heard from the circuit city and other indy stereo shops the newer ecplises have been reliability nightmares. They have powerful preouts but I have hear horror stories about how many head units have come back. Since you instal these have you heard of any problems?
I have a CD7100 in my S (been there for the past 1 1/2 yrs) and had no issues like this.
Unless the CD3200 faceplate is thicker (which I doubt), the issues comes from not installing it properly...
If you mount the brackets in the "correct" location on the HU, it will stick out too far. You have to mount the brackets as far forward on the HU as you can (the little bumps on the brackets will not be in a hole on the HU). You'll also need to use a screwdriver to position the HU directly in the vertical center of the opening to ensure the door can open and close properly.
As for reliability...I wouldn't trust what anyone at Circuit City told me. Not now, not ever. As long as you buy from a valid Eclipse dealer (not offline), and follow the install directions correctly you should have no issues.
I say go for the Eclipse. The sound difference is phenomenal.

^have you even played or seen a 3200?
Anyways Moss, sorry that your losing your job. Thats gotta blow man.
the 3200 face plate is the thickest one I've ever seen! It folds down SO low, I don't see how it would work. It folds down about 1inch. I played with it for a while and could not find a way so that it would open slightly.
I was looking at this deck as well but went against it.
Dlish-Haven't heard anything about preout issues. Read wayyyyy too much issues with the cd getting stuck in this deck though.

^^ again, unless it's a major design change from the 7100, the door doesn't get in the way.
The 7200 is the copper chassis HU, 7100 is the precursor. Both have 8V pre-outs (and that's a true 8v throughout the entire volume range unlike the competitors that have 1-5V pre-outs that don't ever really put out 5V...)

Thanks again for everyone's replies and input.
I'll probably end up buying it. It's down to $188 dollars at the moment and I'm sure it will go down more as my store nears it's closing... If it doesn't work in the S, then I'll just stick it in my civic.
I'll maybe try to get a picture or something of it open tomorrow so I can possibly get further input on it.
