EJs - Your Ideal Sound System
I have the new Alpine PDX 100.4 and 600.1. They would be great for you as you can stack them and probably fit in the spare tire area. They are both class D so they won't drain all your battery power and they stay cool. Also they are full power regardless of ohms. I think they sound better than my stolen JL 500/1 and 300/4. Also look into DIY headrest speakers- great for top down.
I've talked to a few people who have been happy with the Alpine amps. I had a 4-channel Rockford Fosgate Punch 501X amp before with a JL Audio 10" stealthbox, but I had that distortion problem and the amp would overheat on hot days (my car is black, which doesn't help either).
Talk to PAS2KNUT about making a spare tire (or vertical) amp rack. He is one of the best guys on the forum. His consulting knowledge alone makes the price of the rack a bargain. I also got a really good deal on Alpine stuff from IMADARKRIDER fyi. He has a real (not dropship) shop and is an authorized dealer (ie. warranty applies).
Thanks. The members on this forum have, over the 6 years I've been an s2k owner, been an amazing resource -- not only for products but undoubtedly more knowledge of our cars than anyone. It's an amazing place with amazing people.
there are a couple threads here discussing possible upgrade options for the rollhoop speakers, but thus far, nobody has actually installed a workable solution yet.
only a few people will be able to talk when it comes to top end audio, but in reality, if you're going to have a go you've got to do plenty.
dynamat the whole car. interior including behind the dash along the bulkhead - then the boot or trunk entirely.
Next up you've got to run all the wires at the correct paths. Wires carrying sound signal cannot intersect power wires beyond a 90 degree bend to avoid any interferance and wires cannot be too long due to fall out on signal.
After that, alpine f#1 status head units & processors. Audison or diamond audio amplifiers. Rainbow, focal, diamond or hertz audio component & sub speakers.

I love my setup now:
Alpine 9857
Polk DB6500s
Polk 10" Sub running 300wrms
If there was ANYTHING that i wanted to do electronics wise ... I have always wanted to put two 8" Kicker Square subs right behind the driver and passenger seats, where most people add another set of woofers.
Think about it .... ~1200Wmrs .... right in the cabin.

I've been into a highly recommended local shop and have settled on this setup:
- Alpine 9857 that I already have w/XM direct adapters
- Focal Polyglass 165v2s front components
- JL Audio 10Wv3v3-4 in a custom toolwell box (not a stealthbox)
- JL Audio 300/4v2 amp
It's going to be just over $2k out the door. Does that seem like a good setup at a fair price?

I'd like it to be less, for sure, but I know the Focals and JL Audio sub/amp are more expensive than some other options. I was talking about the Alpine PDX amps but they swore they'd been having a lot of problems with them.
My previous set-up was closer to $1k at another shop but that was Kenwood Exceleon speakers and a Rockford amp. They also didn't run good wiring since I was using the stock HU, and it didn't include a sub/box because I bought a JL stealthbox from someone. But maybe I can work them on the installation charges (I'm sure they charge for much more time than it actually takes ...).
What kind of amp do you have?
